It's for a good cause and will put your otherwise wasted cpu cycles that it'd use to run a screen saver for a good cause.
If you don't know what folding or grid are, it's basically a network of computers that operate together (hence the term distributed) in a large grid and essentially make up a supercomputer. Well know universities such as Stanford and Berkeley run science research projects on the grid in an attempt to find cure for cancer and other deadly diseases that will help humanity. This, unlike SETI@Home (SETI@Home is also a distributed project but is intended to discover alien communications) actually may produce a result in a near future and thus in my opinion poses a higher importance.
The more people help out, the faster this research can go and thus make the hope more reachable! The program runs as a screen saver when you're not using your computer and help the good cause.
If you'd like to help out, please go to Grid.org and register and account, then click this link (CalcGames.org Folding Team) and join our team and then run your client software, login and start donating your spare cpu cycles to a good cause!
Thanks!
If you have any questions, please post here and I'll try to help out.
<--- Click the Research link on the left main menu for other info related to the Grid.org research project or in case you forget the url to the project website.

Once people learned what it was, I liked seeing their opinions of it. No one objected the installation of the client in my tech shop at work so 4 compys in there are running the UD client (hence my stats are doing quite well and CG team moved up in ranks).
So yeah, everyone should join up and help the cause unless you're one of those people who simply turns off their computer when it's not in use.

To Lunchbox: Yes we have! Though, most people stopped doing it or moved to another box and forgot about folding. Not like I'm trying to force it onto anyone, just wanted to remind folks that it's there so might as well help out... :)

We're almost about to hit 8000th (generated points) place and whenever we pass the 5k mark our team will show up on the top team list. We're also moving up in ranks on the other scores and so far are almost about to pass the 11k mark. So keep up the good work and those who have not joined in yet, read the first post here to see what this is all about and join in to help.
Thanks!
