PhilosopherEd Goliath Posted: 23 Mar 2004 15:01 GMT Total Posts: 134 | how do you think the outlook for ti calculators is coming? do you think that in 20 years, kids will still be programming for ti, or will the craze die out and wither? with the addition of new calculators, i believe that the ti community will stay about the same size for awhile, not losing people, but not gaining any either. |

People will realize they don't want something that can do everything, when a calculator will suffice. The TI community will grow in proportion to population growth. |
BullFrog Wraith Posted: 23 Mar 2004 20:40 GMT Total Posts: 623 | Either that, or the technology to implant such calculators into peoples brains will be invented and render the "normal" ones, as it were, obsolete.
But I'd still like to have calculators around, just for fun.

spiral Wraith Posted: 23 Mar 2004 21:42 GMT Total Posts: 958 | Graphing calculators for advanced math will continue to have a place, pda's or phones can't relaly eaplce it because it's too easy to cheat on them. Also, you can't leave your phone/pda on for hours withotu kiling your batteries, the lack of tactile button presses is annoying too.
I'd like to see TI lower the prices though. |
dysfunction Goliath Posted: 24 Mar 2004 08:38 GMT Total Posts: 122 | Well, they have, sort of. The new 89 is no more expensive than the old one. But if you're getting a high-end calc, I recommend the Casio Classpad. It has 500k of RAM, 4mb Flash ROM (Archive), a 240x160 pixel screen (for comparison, the 83+ has a 96x64 pixel screen and the 89 has a 160x100 pixel screen), and a 32mhz processor. Calculator trivia: the 83 series has the same processor as the Gameboy (8 mhz Zilog Z80), and the 68k series has the same processor as the Sega Genesis (12 mhz Motorola MC68000). |

What's the trivia thingie?

I believe the Gameboy's is clocked slower, and it also has all sorts of game hardware. Genesis also has a Z80 chip that handles sound, and the 68k chip runs at 8 mhz. |

NES is in the same pack btw. this's btw why you see some z80 asm guru's coding for GameBoy as well. Genesis runs a 8mhz 68k and like you said a 4mhz z80 sound chip. Neo Geo runs on a 12mhz 68k and a support 4mhz z80 plus a yamaha sound chip. It also supports embedded z80 chips on carts!!!

If TI makes any super-calc cahnces are that it'll be so banned, on ly engineeres will be using it. Kind of like the theorized V400.
Why has no one corrected my sig yet. It has been more than a month!

Games are good, but pda's make for much better gaming. creating games on calculator is not easy, nor does it make good games. |
