Z i just figured out that the promotional balance is money we have towards advertising... can someone make a banner or 2 that we can use to advertise the site? may as well since that 2 dollars and 83 cents will just go to waste if we don't advertise.

What? Did I hear someone asking for my artistic vision again? I'll try and put something together this weekend (Friday-Sunday). Any specific things you guys would like to see?

Edit: Is Raz dead?

Edit 2: Animated gif or high color quality single frame gif? Max size in KB? Max demensional size?

Reply 1: Unfortunately it sounds like so. After we moved onto a new server all Raz activity seemed to fade away. SQL link also need to be updated after we moved since db connect doesn't work as you can see after visiting the site.
Reply 2: Doesn't matter, whatever you think would look good. Make a regular sized banner, that is 468x60. File shouldn't be very heavy but if you feel animation is a good idea, go for it (try not exceeding 20KB though).

Yeah, one of the first things I did when we changed servers was check out Raz. I don't like heavy files anyway since I do still use 56.6. I'll fit the size in between 25 and 20 KB. I enjoy making things from scratch but does anyone want some general color pattern or coordination to it? Any theme? I don't need specifics, just some vauge details.

If you sent it to my @CG account I haven't. Send it to my hotmail for now since I haven't asked B how to access the CG account after we switched servers.

Or, yhou can go to cooltext.com and make a semi-cool banner, moving and everything.

Or make a button . . . . .

I like it, I use it for my site.

Well, I made a simple one and e-mailed it to Z and B, sorry I forgot about you spiral I 'll foward a copy in a minute. I've been dying to try out some molten metal, but I have no clever yet short sayings so I put a cheezy one in. Z or B, could one of you post it when you get it? Thanks, I'll be trying more later in the week.

Hmm...i didn't get it D, that's ok tho...x-cept I hope my e-mail hasn't been messed up or anything.

So we're going to start advertising with money we earned, that seems to be what i'm grasping.

Below are D's animations:

Below are my edited versions, the same thing basically but with a few added frames. Those look better but are too big to be usable.

In reality we shouldn't go anywhere above 20-22k. Maybe if we can come up with a collage pic or something nice we can drop the animation to reduce the size. The animation does look good though.

Now I see it after I worked on it, I think I might make a change here or ther is possible. Different moniters and time forgetting what it is supposed to look like helps me re-think some stuff. Besides fixing the text, there is some stuff I have to do to the calc and balls. BTW, I forgot to ask earlier. I want to put a screenie of a good game On the LCD of the calc. I'm open to suggetions, though I have a feeling the other admins would want SAS or Tankers. I'll try both and send in some copies.

Yeah, it's nice, but why do we need more visitors to calcgames? I know it's nice, but I'm still confused. Why should advertise when we're in not exactly rich?

Confused,

To D: Please D, you didn't have to refer to these spheres as "balls". This just sounds kind of odd...well, maybe its just me :).
Try SAS and Tankers, mail me the demos and I'll post them for commentary. I think SAS will look better though.
To calcfreak: B already answered that question. Advertising earns us some money which apparently can't be paid to us and can only be used to advertise. So, the obvious question here is why not use this money for something? Thus, we end up where we are now.

With the viewers we have its very hard to get an advertiser since most folks wouldn't be interested in it. This is why pey-per-impression advertisers do not want to advertise here.

Anyway, below are two final ad versions and we'll soon make a poll to see which ad people like best.

I modified its mask because it overlaped on the screen of the calc. I also wanted to focus a little more attention on it so thats why yo usee much more background color near the top left and right of it.

Do you mean the last revision or the last of the last two displayed?

I'm talking about the last two displayed D. It looks like we're trying to same "calcgamse.org Mode," but it's very nice.

The asus was like around 330-340 with shipping and CA sales tax (www.ajump.com)

Wow, that's one damn good price for what it offers. Btw, does it have a 3d graphics chip? I've hears some PPCs and PDAs have it already, I'm not sure which ones though (not counting Zodiac).

It's performance is excellent, but emulation still isn't perfect. (Full speed with frameskip 2 and full sound would be perfect for me). That's mostly in heavy mode 7 SNES, and an unoptimized GBA/Genesis emulator. But it's good enough I've played like 9-10 hours of Chrono Trigger on it. But I'm waiting for the new version of Morphgear (for SNES/Genesis) and FPSEarm (PS one).

It doesn't have a graphics chip, which has led to performance bottlenecks on all other pocket pc, because the mediaq chips are really bad. No pda currently has a 3d graphics chip. Btw, the Zodiac's chip is a 2-d graphics chip, not 3-d. But the Zodiac has the Fathammer programming built-in, and that has support and enhancements for 3-d games.

Some other pda's with graphics chips are like e740/750/805, ipaq 2215/5450/5555, Axim X5, they all get fairly poor graphics benchmarks on SPB benchmark, most PDA's are less than 1000, but the ones without graphics chip are the highest, the Dell X3, HP 4155, and Asus A620, they get approximately 3000, 3800, 4000, rsepectively.

Btw, I heard the next wave of Pocket PC's will have a few DirectX functions. So you might want to wait till then, and then you can see how the Zodiac does/what games/emulators are out for it.

PS1 emulators sounds kinda useless since you need some good cpu power to emulate it and a HUGE memory card to store a full cd image. too bad there are no SNES and not even a genesis emulator for Palm OS. At least I haven't seen one so far. Oh yeah, Pocket Quake owns. I so wish someone would port it to Palm OS.

You can rip out sound/movie files sometimes to fit it in more. I was playing Ridge Racer at about 1/2 speed (2 megabyte compressed). And Metal Slug X was about 90 megabytes i think.

Yeah, that'd be a binary version (aka MAME rom) of MSX rom file. NeoRageX version is around 46megs but doh, there isn't a NeoRageX for a ppc. Btw, how's the emulation speed of NeoGeo on a ppc? Idea of playing MSX wherever you want almost made me piss myself...that's such an awesome game (i have all the games in the series btw as well as a very extensive collection of other games that total to over 1.2gigs)!

MegaMameCE supposedly emulates Neogeo, but I tried it a little and couldn't get it to load the rom, possibly I had the zip file name wrong, but I dont' know if you have to have the right name. I heard it's neogeo emulation isn't that great, don't know what performance is like.

mame roms btw HAVE to have correct filenames according the the release listings or else they don't seem to be recognized by mame emulators. also, some mame emulators require roms to be unzipped which is kind of gay.
