Hey everyone, CalcGames.org has created its own team to help with various researches using distributed computing. Aim of the project is to find cures to cancers, smallpox and other diseases that currently have no cure. This gives you an opportunity to donate your spare cpu cycles to a good cause which will benefit humanity.
Please have a look at this page for more detailed info: http://www.calcgames.org/research.
We have actually created this team sometime ago but never posted a link to it. Please read about our team on the page linked above and join us to help!

Thanks!

I downloaded the client, and will set it up when I have a chance.

Okay, it's set up and running, and I joined the team.

Okie. I joined. That was a really neat idea, guys.
Edit: I noticed how you mentioned "HUMANS don't have the cure for..."
Interesting. Maybe some other form of life do...

I was running SETI a while back, but it eats up cycles like you won't believe, so I replaced it with After Dark. But this one might last, since it runs on low priority, dunno, depends on how much I need the juice.

But this box spends a lot of time idling with IRC or burning DVDs, so it should chew up the data pretty quickly.

Thank folks! I used to run Seti, but I think this project has more pratical value. These distributed computing researches already showed results before and with everyone's help they will again.

Most likely they won't display you until you submit a completed chunk of data to their server.

the stats aren't live. I would guess that they are updated once per day. I've submitted several results but it shows 0.

Stats are updated when your client sends in results. (yes, whenever it finished that long task its doing). When it does that, it'll also sync the settings you've changed in your online profile with the client. I kinda wish updated could have been more often but I guess they do it to not waste resources. Afterall, the aim of the project not to come first on the stats but rather help the cause. I hope you guys agree on that one.

EDIT: Scratch that. It does look like they update once in 24hrs.

it looks like the program updates stats every time you connect to the server, but on the website they only update once every day.

i understand that now but i think i recall it saying we
get stuff for the points we earned from finshed each task
so im wondering what kind of stuff they could give to a
site or if they send it to the individual people

again i know i could look for it but i'm just lazy like that :img30:
