Posted: 29 Nov 2005 14:42 GMT Total Posts: 192 | couldn't someone have 5 diffrent accounts and vote a program that they disliked out of the archives. maybe you should provide a reason when you vote a program as useless and after five votes the admins are notified and they can see if the reasons given are valid and chose to deleat it. |
TI Freak Probe Posted: 30 Nov 2005 05:39 GMT Total Posts: Edit | How about a group of us, say 5-6 programmers, overview the files? |
Andy Administrator Posted: 30 Nov 2005 11:18 GMT Total Posts: 939 | I highly doubt this would be implemented on this version of the site. The new version, maybe, if you bug Nikky enough. |
TI Freak Probe Posted: 30 Nov 2005 14:49 GMT Total Posts: Edit | Well, I don't want Nikky to get pi**ed at me because I am bugging him... :)
Anywho, if it were accomplished:
1. User clicks on the "Report File" button in the file details pages. 2. This will send a PM or email to the 5-6 "hired" reviewers, that contains a link to the file, and automatically creates a "poll" that the reviewers can decide whether it is worthy to stay in the archives or not.
I don't know how good of an idea this really is, but hey... :)

rivereye Probe Posted: 1 Dec 2005 12:39 GMT Total Posts: 8 | that is good. I would also be willing to help (i should visit here more often though) rate if need by. |
TI Freak Probe Posted: 1 Dec 2005 13:49 GMT Total Posts: Edit | @Jc:
I guess that would work, but it would allow others to help out with calcgames... :)
The final decision is of course, up to the admins... |

trackstar6053 Marine Posted: 14 Dec 2005 15:44 GMT Total Posts: 38 | I like ur lips lol. jk. on a more serious note i agree, an idea i had was to have the various games and files grouped into games, screansaver(aka battery wasters) math, science, guess the number(when someone subitter there it would automaticly deleate it lol) and other various things, especially for BASIC prgms, because and average joe can make a crap prgm (see coffman runner) and post it. the assembly might not have to be so strict, because all of those (save 1) that i have come across have been pretty good games. if anyone else has a better idea i am fully open and listening. Also I noticed in the so-called "virus scan" prgm he (girls arnt tht stupid unless their blonde) used unarcive. it was my understanding that u could not do such things for i tryed with my lengthy text based game that was in total about 30000 bites. ( i wish i still had that much free time) and it was made into multiple pgrms. but u could not play smoothly, which is why i stoped and am now working on our RPG (see general pgrms) If anyone knows how UnArchive can work in basic please let me know i am greatly interested...

Does anyone think this feature could get abused? Perhaps we also need to develop some kind of file quality standards and pop them onto the website before we have such a review system. That way if stuff gets deleted people would be able to see quality guildelines of sorts to support the deletion of their file. I do however agree all 100% that we need to start controlling the file quality to a certain degree as archive is getting increasingly dirty with junk files and good software is becoming hard to find (kinda like ticalc but they server a different purpose than CG).

If you did that you had to be cheacked out thought the management and you had to be here for about a month first and you had to have some post on the forum (even though Knowleadge/=posts)

TI Freak Probe Posted: 16 Dec 2005 14:28 GMT Total Posts: Edit | Well, most of the users to this site is sensible, so I don't think it would get abused, but there are a couple people everynow and then...
And another reason I suggest letting others (known programmers) do the rating is:
Andy seems extremely busy with school and just general life, I doubt he would need the strain.
I can't really speak for the other admins/cms/etc, but I am sure they have other things to do.
And besides, it is my idea, I just have absolutely no idea how to program it... that is why I would help with the reviewing/voting...

We'll certainly take this though into account while working on the new file quality polling system. We could also have system automatically poll files that have say very low file rating and perhaps 5-10+ votes...
