There are a lot of you who don't know who I am, and some who may still remember. I joined in as a part of the staff roughly one month of attending the site. I don't remember exactly when it was, but It was near August and September. At the time it was Zkostik, Barrett, Spiral, and myself. This was back a few years ago when the community was fairly active just coming out of its peak activity. During my stay we had the bipolar egotistical maniac named calculatorfreakCG come on over and join the party. After some time he some how flipped harder than the bits of memory on my calculator. After working with him personally for about 3 months trying to get him to stop his outlandish and psychotic behavior, he became our first permanently banned member. That was nearly 2 years ago.

Separate from the bad times, I've helped out on Tankers as well as having released a few maps for the game. Its cool that 2 of those placed in the little contest we had a while back. A little while after that Z and B had brought up the idea of making our own port of StarCraft. Since we all owned an 89, we decided to start it for the 68K calculators. B had things come up, like going off on his missionary trip and with his uncomented convoluted code, our next programmer pi_guy had to start from scratch. It was at this time I asked to take a crack and converting some of the graphics. I had talked to Z for sometime figuring out what he was doing and running various samples by him here and there. Once I had a uniform method down I started going through my first batch. Given that it was a few thousand files, this was far from an easy task. I was using Photoshop Elements at the time. Well, once pi_guy disappeared I didn't see much of a reason to continue trudging on so my work stagnated as well. A little while after that I started my own project, LinkView. It was meant to be a replacement for Var-Link by adding a multi-folder, grayscale interface that allowed simultaneous viewing of files in multiple folders while keeping your place in each one, as well as emulating full duplex transfers of any file type. It also showed a visual progress bar and numeric read out on how much of the current particular file was in its transmission as well as the same status for the group of files you were transferring, if applicable. I had done extensive programming in TI-BASIC so I decided to use this project to learn C in TIGCC. I stopped development because I switched platforms from XP to Mac OS X 10.3, in late December of 2003. Since I had not grown up on working with the insides of unix, I was no where able enough to compile TIGCC for my PowerBook. I have left every bit of my work here in CG's archives and on my personal web space for any and all to look at, incorporate, etc etc into any of there work as long as they give credit where credit is due. At middle of last summer with my job going well at The Sharper Image (where I still work in lower management) I bought my first real camera, a canon EOS 20D and shortly afterward, Adobe CS2. After a fairly quick learning curve since I was on Elements for several years, I quickly found out how to use the automation tools in Photoshop CS2. Thus in 1 week, I redid, all of my previous work and then some totally 70% completion of the gfx pack. Now there are still some gfx that have the wrong color tables that Z has not been able to properly rip, but besides those, as of 2 days ago I have completed converting every practical gfx over to a working 4 level grayscale image and associated mask. This last batch utilized tools only found in full blown PS and by far these are the best I've done. If we could use 8 level grayscale, then it would be 90% possible to convert every gfx from the original game and expansion packs and still be able to see what they are. All except for one lose end on the terrains, I am done with my work on the project which started about 3 years ago iirc.

Roughly 2 and a half months ago I privately announced to the whole staff of CG that once I was done I would be taking my resignation form the site. Since I've been around for so long I've asked to keep everything regarding my account to remain in tact just in case people here still want to but me for some crazed reason. Oh and to mention, I only know stuff about the TI-89, TI-92+, and Voyage 200. Any specific questions relating to the newest 89 I cannot answer. I have a pretty hectic life and some other things need ot be cut out for time reasons. I will occasionally pop my head in here to look around and whatnot, but for the most part I'm retiring from CG. It's been a pleasure beta testing, moderation, map making, gfx converting, posting, chatting, and just plain old having fun over here. You folks can catch me over on #calcgames (where I have power and ignorance, this is where Andy_J doesn't like my decisions like topics :P), and #tcpa where I now reside for another hangout place other than AIM. Other than that:

And to all a good night,
Digital, aka Michael O'Brien the crazy ass photography and graphics guy (he uses a Mac (not "MAC") too)

If someone wants to make this news, by all means, you won't hear me object.

Lol. Good to see you have a sense of humor til the very end.

No, that wasn't too long. I've seen longer :D

With that being said, I am saddened to see such a prestigious member of our community, and indeed our site, take his leave. However, members come and go, and some have a bigger impact than others. We can only hope that you will not be forgotten like so many former members. No one will ever be able to take your place.

Take Care, D. We'll all miss you!

Sigh... well, I remember when you were active, and you were good to have around. So have fun with whatever you plan to do, take a lot of pictures (do you have a deviantart account? if you do, what is it?), and don't forget us!

I do have a deviant account, but right now with my current software arrangement, ie I use 3 pieces of software for the same thing because none of are as extensive as they should be, it takes too much time to maintain it. I do have pictures from my vacation 2 weeks ago online. Once I have time to finish organizing everything I'll be "publishing my work". I'm currently waiting for things (like money to buy lens so I can then start shooting a specific way again) to fall in line so I can have my photography business up and running by summer time and earning an income through it

I'm disheartened to see you leave D, beacuse you've been around here longer than I have and were, and still are, a very productive member of the community. Best of luck to you in the photo business and all of life, for that matter, and I hope you pop in here @ CG more often than not.

Cheers,

Alex Gould

Because of inactivity, you won't find much. Perhaps in the next month I'll have things to put up there.

D, you've been around forever! Well, since I've been here, at least. I've known this would be coming for some time, but it's still a shock to actually see your notice. You added a perspective to the site that won't be easily replaced, and perhaps shouldn't. I do understand the lack of time; I'm starting to feel the pressure as well. Thanks for the time and effort you've spend here!

First thing D, awesome essay. I really loved reading through it and remembering the good old days.

Second, as always the pleasure is all ours and it's been great having you on the team. We all know and understand that nothing lasts forever and there's time to move on and thus we (at least myself but I'm sure the rest of the crew will back me up on that one :) wish you all the best. Do however pop in from time to time and give us some heads up on what you've been up to. Hehe.

Thanks for all your time Mike and I truly hope you don't feel like it went to waste, we did have good times in here afterall and all the stuff we went through. Of course your account will stay, email on forwarder and webspace open for whatever. I've gotta copy allyn that you did add a whole perspective to the feel of the site and its general athmosphere, so big thanks for that, mate.

Farewell!

Well depending on how things shape up in the coming months I may come out of retirement. But as I say that, remember how many times I promised to finish off my previous revision before this one.

Anyhoo, I certainly hope I'll see you around, D. I'll make it my mission in life to annoy you in #calcgames. >:)

My avatar is a photo of mine from my vacation

I did not watch the movie but I'm familiar with Chaos theory and decided to use it because of how many times I tried to finish my work and things kept getting in the way. Now I've just changed my sig to fit an event that happened with me opening a can of tuna for one of my tuna recipes and my brother happened to be standing near me. I couldn't help but do a parody on Monty Pythons' Holy Grail.

Also remember that Andy called me a cheater when I scored higher on the geek test than he did. Oh sorry, those sounds that are similar to home made mini depth charges under water are coming from my neck. Boy that feels good. Now I say g'night.
