uh oh...it came out of beta? i tried beta and went back to 2.75 (or whatever last version) cuz i didn't really like it and it didn't run old skins (i think) and then there was some sort of security problems. anyways, i'll prolly check it out when i get time. sounds strange, but i like Windoze Media Pleyer more after it got DSP patch made by MS which improved sound quality/clarity like 200% (even s***ty sounding mp3's played on winamp will sound almost like cd quality! have anyone got that patch installed too (oh, it's for Win XP only)?

most Winamp3 skins with differently styled pieces don't go together and look really messy and original skin isn't very cool. also, the plugins from old Winamps don't work, which isn't cool. i still use Windows Media Player most of the time and watch all movies on it (though i watch DivX movies on official DivX player and DVD's on PowerDVD). so, in general i don't see any obvious reasons to upgrade. movie playback isn't too great either. let's just say there are better alternatives right now.

I don't use the origional skin I use a blue-metal one. I prefer v2.8 cuz its set the way i want it. I use Windows Media Player for my DiVX films. The official DiVX player it terrible, because it always crashes within 15 minutes of your movie.

I tried winamp 3, somethings were kind annoying, like how u could break up into a million parts, and 2.8, which i liked better, couldn't play music videos. and normal skin is really annoying. The one thing that it can do that win media player can't (i think) is how u can just add a whole directory, which is useful since i have like 20 folders of music, but if i select the overall folder i can add music quickly. but the one really really really really annoying thing that will probably make me switch bak to win media player is how winamp doesn't work w/ music that has names that have unicode names (like some foreign languages) which half of my stuff is named...

Anybody know any good programs to change the bitrate of mp3's? I need to convert to 64kps and 44khz sampling rate, but CDex only does 64 and 22. And soundstream generates a lot of excess noise which is really annoying.

I use DbPowerAmp for this sort of tasks. unfortunately, it has been discontinued by its author. great prog, you might be able to find a copy of it somewhere tho. musicmatchJB is gay and doesn't give a whole lot of options and full version costs like $80, geez, who needs it for that much...

I tried DbPowerAmp, it is excellent for ripping cd's, but can't convert stuff that's already on the computer, so unless i go thru the long process of burning a cd and then ripping it off..., but thanx

Winamp 3 is really cool. It's got crossfading, even if the old one had an upgrade for crossfading that you could actually change the settings of. I didn't find any features for that on Winamp 3. It does have more things on, though like the lirics amp that you can get on winamp.com. It's really cool. I use winamp for DJing and I like it. I've seen lots of people use winamp. Some of my teachers have it and even the guys who are making that zelda thing on the computer. if you look at the screen shot, you'll see the winamp thing in the taskbar.

I figured it out Z, thanx for the recommendation, i was opening the cd ripper program (*doh*). Winamp's ok imo, i don't like that it doesn't display, or even play files that have names that are written w/ unicode, which is support in Windows. The crossfading is decent. The most annoying feature is how it stops sometimes if u are playing music videos, for absolutely no reason.
