After having gotten my hands on a Doom III Alpha leak from E3 and playing it I began to stutter. Gosh, it looks absolutely amazing. I've never seen anyhting like this before. If you guys thought UT2K3 has set a new standard for games, then you need to give Doom III a spin. This thing chocked my brothers comp and I'm not even talking about my own. His comp is a P4-1800/64meg GF3/256 meg ram and on that Doom ||| went at about 15-25 FPS (and lower than 10 when firing the gun) at 640x480 res w/t everyhting to the max. I can't even describe how phat it looks, you just gotta see it for yourself. Amount of detail and no hesitation for poly-count make it look very realistic and VERY scary. However poor framerate doesn't let it be as scary. I'll cap some screenshots so ya guys can see what it looks like. Oh, it eats models and other stuff right out of Maya, so those who know what it is can probably guess Doom III's power. Bow to the power of Doom III (get some new hardware before you do though)!

I've heard of Maya before. A 3D modeling app right? I've heard some stuff like it is basically an OS dedicated to modeling and its free right?

I've been searching for the Alpha leak. I've gotten about 3 corrupted versions thus far :-/. They say that the GF3 is the MINUMUM REQUIREMENT(!) for the game. I've seen screenshots, and it looked absolutely stunning. The engine and uses a special technique to blend in polys to make the count less, and look just as good. It helps the game run faster, but its only alpha, and obviously still needs tweaking. But it looks great, and the shadowing is very good. If I had a demo I could actually say more rather than keep babbling on lol. I just want my hands on it sooo desperately :)

Well, it ran on my P3-800/GF2-GTS/384 ram but well, it topped like 12 FPS and Doom killed my machine when blood decals appeared. from what my bro said, his friend tried the game on his new p4-2.8/Radeon 9700p/? rdram-1066 and the game went smooth like butter. so, i think if you get a comp of about 2.4 gigs with GF4-ti4600 or Radeon 9700p and 256+ rdram-800 or better you should be more than ready for new gaming age. lemme know if you guys wanna some screens. just to say, there are no more static prerendered stuff in Doom, all light and shados are dynamic. and my, how darn good they look! (sniff..sniff..and they eat a good part of yer CPU too!) of course since its in such early buggy stages we can expect lots of lags and other unoptimized junk. i'd say we should gain at least 10 FPS when the game is perfected. you can get a demo off of KaZaA. one named doom3.e3-demo.ShareReactor.rar and weighting 364 megs (381 in windoze properties) works. oh, you'll need a latest version of WinRAR to be able to extract it. enjoy, welcome to the new age!

it indeed is my friend! even UT2K3 is, you need a pretty good rig to play at highest settings and good res. it's time to upgrade everyone :)

The game was coded specifically for the new Radeon, therefore the rates will be better. Its only alpha, so they didn't really focus on the need for hardware support. GF3, 4, and the New Radeon are the only 3 that would be best to run the game on.
I wouldn't suggest past 640X480 if you want it playable hee hee.
I tried e-Donkey those 3 times. I got a corrupted rar. Every time I somehow download more than the file size is. I suppose I could attempt Kazaa... god help me. I think I' may try IRC first though. I found speed up hacks and stuff for the alpha the *MAY* work, but not positive yet, since I never got a working version. Untill then, My mouth drools just loking at screenshots....

Actually, not specifically for Radeon but rather for NV30. The game also has optimizations for Parphelia's hardware feats. (which you can turn on manually). Well, the default res in the demo is less than 640x480 which brings you fake antialiasing. You'd need some good metal to go beyond 640x480. Oh, you'll drool even more when you actually play it! Too bad there are too many bs and virused copies of Doom3 demo now.

Actually, first time I played the demo and didn't know where everything were I sat on the edge of my chair and jumped up screamin "oh crap!" almost every time a monster popped up! Geez, they really were unexpected and with all this gfx they look darn scary!!!

I just found out that one of the three versions I downloaded will unzip correctly. All I had to do was dump winAce and get a non-3 year old version of winrar! Its extracting now. hope it works after extraction is complete. please... please... please... lol

Holy cow!!! I just played the game after modifying the config some, and its amazing! I also used a patch to get the single player menu to work.
Opening movie when you load game - 59-60fps
Gameplay:
With nobody in the area I get 30-20fps - usually 20
with 1 monster on screen I get 20-15 fps
With 1 monster and firing I get 15fps
My PC:
Intel 850 motherboard
P4-1500
256MB PC800 RDRAM
AGP GeForce3
400Mhz fsb (data rate)
I use Win2KPro if ur curious.
Nothing overclocked.

yeah, Doom babe needs some really nice metal to get satisfactory gamelay. i say p4/533fsp/gf4-ti4600 or radeon 9700p to get the best outta it.
still, don't forget this is a very early version which is months and months old and its prolly very buggy.
