spiral Wraith Posted: 27 Oct 2003 11:32 GMT Total Posts: 958 | Assuming my house doesn't burn down, help me chose which on I should get the: Tapwave Zodiac|Asus Mypal A620|Dell Axim X3?
Tapwave Zodiac
Pros: Palm OS doesn't multi-task, possibly more powerful emulation Made for console gaming Expensive device (~60 to 90 more than others) Cons: Games are expensive Very new, little software is adapted for it SD Slots, have to use 3 types of memory No good Emulators out, future ones may be expensive
Asus Mypal A620
Pros: Fastest Pocket PC on the market Excellent Controls on the device for gaming Free Emulators that work well Playstation 1 emulator CompactFlash slot goes with my camera (if I get an SD handheld, i'll have 3 different memory formats) Cheapest Cons: Future upgradibility Tapwave might be better for emulation
Dell Axim X3
Pros: Supposedly quite fast Wi-fi Pocket PC software Extra buttons Cons: More expensive really really ugly, especially the back (all sorts of protrusions) SD slot

Tapwave is a bit large, extremely long Tapwave and Dell don't include cradles. Asus has a nice screen Tapwave has double resolution of other two devices.

From the pack, I'd go with Asus Mypal but its the most expensive of the three. I'd stay away from Dell Axim for now since they're know to have problems with OS. Though, Axim's are a pretty good deal for the money. Zodiac is good for gaming only, its too big to put into a pocked and not very good as a pda while in vertical mode. Besides, it runs a Palm OS which isn't all that great. The screen is a lot bigger though, but slowe cpu will probably not perform as good as Intex xscale used in other two. Also note that there is a lot of free divx/mp3 players and emulators for pocket windows while there's only a few for palm os and they're not free. from the pack however, i like Asus Mypal best...

If you're looking for games, get the Tapwave Zodiac in about 6 months- a year. Why? Becuase by then :
a) the price will be down b) more games c) game price will go down |
spiral Wraith Posted: 27 Oct 2003 20:43 GMT Total Posts: 958 | Yeah, i'll most likely get the Asus Z. Actually I meant to say the Asus was the cheapest of 3. I dont' see anythign wrong with the Zodiac as a pDA in vertical mode, my current Palm has the same screen as the Zodiac. Palm OS definately does have its limitations.
Actually, even though the Zodiac has 1/2 the processing power, it may be able to outperform the Asus, because the overhead of processing on Palm OS is lower. It also has a built-in gfx chip (and some of the graphics it produces are quite impressive). However, it doesn't have any emulators out. I doubt the game price will go down much unless sales are very poor. However, in a year the Sony PSP comes out, and i'll have to see how things shape up then. |
