How do you become a forum moderator?

For the whole site forum, you have to be invited to be a admin.

For a mod, you can get your board, and then moderate that one area.

What kind of things do the admins look for to consider giving you that position?

Well, to be considered for admin position one basically needs to have been around the site and TI community for some time. In other words, that person has to be well known by us to entrust them an admin post. If you're new, then there probably not much of a change to become admin (you have to understand our position). Though, we are working on the site controls so we may eventually have a promotional admin position to see how out new guys are doing. As of now, just stick around the site so we can get to know you better. Either way you're welcome here so just participate in the various discussions so that we learn more about you and you'll get to learn about us. If you show capability you may become moderator or some of the site's general forums, while this isn't a full admin job, you'll still have quite a bit of control and we'll be able to see whether you'd fit being admin or not.
Good luck friend.

*Sigh* I have been trying to make the most usefull (both quanity and quality) posts I possibly can for nearly half a year, but yet I must wait to recive any recognition. I think one of the main reasons of this is because I didn't have an avatar until recently. Personally, I think people who post that don't have avatars are thought of new people who are posting for one of their first times. People like Z and Jc and the guy with the fractal are more easily noticed. Who actually looks at the name of the person, they look at the picture. This is why I finally decided to get an avatar. And on the good side, I will always be known as the guy with the bunny with a pancake, lol.

Ya know, we all look the same to a lynx user, or someone who turned off avatars.

Speaking of which, I had my board removed a day ago, and my status screen still says "Moderator," someone may want to fix that.

eh... it'd take too much effort to change that.

by the way, there are some people on this site who have made very constructive posts for several years. We don't just hire administrators for fun. Currently we don't need any, and when we do hire any, it won't necessarily be because of how they behave on this forum. (Morgan and Redux never posted on this forum when we hired them).

Yep. You should have seen my timetraveller avatar.

I'd like to help moderating, but I know you guys have it fine already. Besides, I've started admin-ing in another forum, and frankly, it rocks.

That's a bunny?!? I though it was a gerbil!

It's a bunny, see the nose? It's a very rabbit like face. And its ears are being held down by the pancake.

Just ask for your own forum. For example, I moderate my own little subforum on this site. There's some way to do it, i forget how.

we don't need anyone else moderating the general forums. if you have a project that you are working on (or you have a programming group that makes projects), you can be a moderator of your own forum.

That was all pretty random :-)

On-Topic:
I have been looking into Perl a bit and I think it might be over my head a bit. I am sure it would help a little if I knew C or somethign like that first. So as far as using me for making scripts an such after B leaves, this might not be possible...so unless Z wants it all to himself, maybe a good perl script writer might be in order?

Perl is an evil language. I use it, and I don't like it one bit.

JC: Website? www.perl.com is a good place to start. But I learnt it from a book myself. :-/
