Hey you guys!

I just got done searching the internet for a few hours now with no luck. I'm looking to purchase as sort of a gag b-day gift the 2 or 3 minute videotape that they show during the ring...the one that if you watch will kill you in 7 days.

I couldn't find it for sale anywhere on the internet, and I was wondering if anyone here knew if they even sold it and where I might find it.

Why don't you rent the tape and copy that segment?

Lol, that'd be a really good one. I think TI Freak's idea is prolly the only choice you have. Good luck, let us if you do manage to do it right. It'd be funny to hear how your buds reacted to it. :)

That is a good idea, however I only have 1 VCR. Maybe I can find another on my floor to borrow.

I have another idea that might be easier. My friend can rip DVD'd. I have the Ring on DVD ad it has that extra feature of just the video. I also have a DVD/VHS combo player so I can record from DVD to VHS if the system doesn;t detect that the DVD is not supposed to be recorded.

So do you think that if I can get my friend to rip the dvd then use that copy to record it onto vhs that it will allow me to? Rght now I get an error that says that it is illegal t record that DVD onto vhs.

Ummm, I don't think you can run both at the same time. At least the ones that I have seen you cannot. I just keep 2 really cheap vcrs around when I want to do stuff like that...

Your idea might work though. The only way to know is to try it... But if you have it on dvd already, just find someone that is not associated with your friend you are trying to prank and put it inline with the dvd player. That way, it won't know that it is illegal. :)

I believe that the DVD of it (or the second one is going to have it) actually has an easter egg that runs the "death tape". Though, you probably knew that.

Got a second VCR, jsut lookin for some AV cables now :-)

My theory is that if I try to record off the DVD from a different VCR attached to the combo unit it will not detect the violation error...if that fails I'll rent it. However I don;t believe that will have the "death tape" as an extra feature like the DVD has.

huh... on VHS, it probably doesnt... the only movies i ever got on VHS with special features (other than ads) were M*A*S*H and the Matrix... (and the matrix was a special edition tape...)

The point here is to make it more fun. Since teh Ring came on VHS, its a logical step to also put it onto VHS. :)
Btw, good idea Jc. It sounds like the Ring dvd should have something like that. At least you'd expect it to...

Hey that is great, except that is the original version from 'Rungu' the Japanese version. And I don;t have anyway of making that into a videotape. I hve a week or so until the B-Day so I have time.

@ Z and Jc. The originaly DVD of the Ring has the video seperate from the movie (somewhat extended as well) and accessable from the menu as well if you click on the chair.

Well, if you do it like this, you shouldn't have any problems:

(DVD)out--------(VCR IN)out----------(TV IN)

I am sure you knew that, but it never hurts to reinforce the idea...

Now you need someone in there to be able to text message you that they watched the tape, so you can call them...

Talk about scared out of their skins...
