I don't mean popups, I mean in-site ads, which can kill you if your computer is slow. Especially fancy ones. You simple click the adblock button, and it shows you a list of every element on the site that can be blocked. Then, click on what you want, and its gone! I can block images, frames, and scripted ads! For example, I got the CG ad to disappear, then reappear again! It is really cool, and if Firefox users were not aware of it, you should get yourself a version installed! Its a small extension, 70kb to be exact :) |

Andy Administrator Posted: 1 May 2005 09:33 GMT Total Posts: 939 | Hmm, does adblock fetch the ad even though it doesn't show it? If it would do that, then I don't have a problem with it. ;) |
JcCorp Probe Posted: 1 May 2005 10:16 GMT Total Posts: Edit | Well, I wasn't really helping them anyways, as I never clicked on them. If they get money anyways, I'll turn that off. |

Though, Google may only count impressions from different hosts or use certain timeout until it cound the same host again. I only use my adblocker to waste popups and image ads, text ads don't bother me so i don't care if they're there or not. and Jc, its your call to whether use your blocker or not, we cannot force you not to use it... if you want, you can tell your popup blocker to not block ads shown on CG...

spiral Wraith Posted: 1 May 2005 13:55 GMT Total Posts: 958 | I mainly use adblock to block really raelly annoying ads. Also some scripts ads (such as one on a forum that searches through the whole text of the page and hyperlinks words that could make ads, it makes loading the page take 2-3x longer and more processing power). |

greenorange Goliath Posted: 2 May 2005 17:43 GMT Total Posts: 199 | @Andy: You can choose whether to hide the ad, or never even load it at all. I make it never even load the ad, but they have an option to load it, but not see it.
I let google ads through, but I hate the ads that use flash animations and fancy things like that. My vid card is slow, and they really slow my computer down. Some sites I visit even ask to register and pay, and then they remove the ads. Not anymore! :) |
