Total Posts: 14 | well, i learned alot in my first thread. so much, in fact, that all of a sudden i'm the calc expert in my class... go figure. everyone wants me to put games on their calcs.
one guy has a TI-86. we obviously can't link my 83 to his 86, so im gonna take his home over the weekend and download some 86 games for him, hopefully.
i have a few uncertainties, though. can i use my silver usb cable with his TI86? also, does the TI86 require an app like mirageOS or ion to run games? if so, which one do you guys recommend? thanks! |

Total Posts: 14 | thanks. i checked out ticalc.org's shells for the 86, and it turns out zshell is for the ti-85. so should they all do the job about the same, or are there any that are really good for the 86?
[EDIT] - also, does anyone know of a tetris knockoff for the 86? they dont have any exact tetris clone at ticalc.org.

Total Posts: 2486 | Yes, Rascall is the best shell for 86. At least its my favorite. You can download it from out Programs -> TI-86 section.If you need further help with it, just post here.
EDIT: Exact tetris clone for 86 would be Ztetris. You can get a copy from [HERE]. I'll also add it to our archive sometime later.

Total Posts: 14 | i'm having some problems getting TI connect to connect to the 86. i go to the device explorer, and after it tries to connect for awhile it gives up and opens my communication settings. the ti-86 is nowhere in the drop down menu for what calculator you're using. it has the 73, 83, 83+, 89, and 92, but no 86. how lame. anyway, are there any 3rd party programs i can use to connect and transfer? thanks. |

Total Posts: 4 | use the CD you got with your Cable...and install Graphlink...it's easy to use...but if it doesn't work, on STart>Tigraphlink start blacklink, it might slove your problem |

You can download TI GRaph Link 86 from TI's (go to education.ti.com and then get to their software downloads) website or any linking program from ticalc.org's archive that supports 86 (they have a bunch).

Total Posts: 623 | No, the 86 does not need a shell for running games and such. It just makes it nicer. ^ - ^ Without the shell, just put asm( on the homescreen followed by the game/program. Rascall off of ticalc.org is the best one for the 86.
Check the other thread for info on the using the USB and 86. *TiLP does work.*

Total Posts: 14 | thanks guys. i've got everything working well on his 86 now. i'm using rascal and the macintosh OS 9 version of TI connect to transfer... it's really handy having both a pc and mac to use!
btw, the TI-86 is a kickass calculator... not as fast as my 83 SE, but geez this thing does a TON of cool stuff... and all of the game's graphics are much better! |

Total Posts: 2486 | Oh man, 86 is a great calc. Too bad TI stopped supporting it. Its the only that that has flickerless grayscale after TI released 89 HW 2. Its also very customizable and has many good games for it. I really hate its menus though...other than that i'd probably put it on second place after my 89.
Oh yes, you gotta try Maze-3D which can be found in ticalc.org's TI-86/Assembly/Games section.

Total Posts: 14 | i'll be sure to check out maze-3D. i even asked my friend if i could buy this thing from him- he's actually never used it in a math class, but it turns out he's borrowing it from his stepbro so he can't sell it. also, i kinda like the menu system. really easy to fly thru stuff once you get used to it.
the one thing that i really like about the 86, though, is the equation solver. is there an application for the 83+/SE that can do the same thing? it would be invaluable to save time in AP calc. i checked all the "official" apps at TI's own site and couldnt find anything. i asked about this at TI's own forum, but it doesn't exactly seem to be a fast-moving place... i may be waiting for awhile on an answer there. so does such a thing exist? thanks!
