Total Posts: 1892 | everything, the SE is cheaper, comes with more apps, and every school uses them, and there the easyest to use.
THe voyage is about 80 bucks more, it has better graphics, better calculating power, more options, better games (a definate Plus)
If you're in 10th grade down, try the 83+, but the 89 is a few dollars more...
If youre in 11+ and planning togo collage, try the voyage or 89 |

Total Posts: 2486 | actually, they probably won't even let you use Voayge 200 in school coz stupid teachers might think its a computer. my calc mat hteach didn't even let me use my 89. she was saying i was playing games on it, like no one else in the classroom who has 83+'s wasn't playing. she never even believed me when i was programming something on it and this kind of stuff. for your first calc i'd also say go with 83+SE. it'll be easier for you to get used to, teachers will know that calc and will be able to help you if you need help and they won't think you have a weird calc and tell you to put it away. also, V200 is not authorized to be used on standardized tests like SAT or ACT because of its qwerty keyboard. go with 83+SE for now and if you like it and decide to get a second calc, then get a V200 or 89.

Total Posts: 739 | Yeah, and I find that if you get a Ti83+, not a Silver Edition-since it looks like a scientific calculator, most teachers like the black one better, becuase the SE looks more like a computer. It's stupid, since they're the same, but heck, teachers are stupid. |

Total Posts: 1051 | a 256KB chip as does the 92+ and 89. Someone who has an 83+ or 83+ SE, hook it up to the comp, open TI-Connect, and click on the Devise Information graphic. Thats how you find out. The free RAM can vary but is about 170 to 180 KB for the V200. That is enough to run Crono Fantasy on it which is the game that takes up the most RAM for the 68k calcs. I think your question whould be "How much archive does the V200 have" because things can be in the archive and still be run. In that case ~2.6 MB is the amount of archive you can squeeze out of the V200.

Total Posts: 623 | I'm going to hazard a guess on the V200's processor speed. I don't remember any mention of the V200 getting a faster processor along with the extra mem, so I'll assume it is still the same processor that went into the 92+'s. If memory serves correctly, the 92+ and the 89 have the same processor, which is officially a M68k (Motorola 68000, isn't it?) running at 12MHz. (I have clocked my 89's processor at a little over 13MHz though.) Now, some may say that the SE is faster then because of the 15 MHz speed. Just remember that the processors are different and therefore can't really offer legitimate comparison.

Total Posts: 1051 | YOur hazard is dead on BullFrog. But here comes the MHz game. The MC68k/M68k/68k procs are 16-bit processors as the procs in the 83/83+/83+(SE) are 8-bit. Here the proformance difference will be seen. 25% faster in MHz, yes but when it comes to proformance of teh hardware which can/will bottleneck the speed, the V200 will rise to the top. Not to mention the grayscale support and the significantly large screen. Hands down the V200 is a better calculator than the 83+ SE. If you want I can run a systematic comparison to prove this. |

Total Posts: 623 | Really Digital? Sweet. As for clocking your calc... I used a program created by Greg Dietsche (spelled wrong, I'm sure) that does it for me. I don't know if there's one like it for the SE, but you could probably find one somewhere.

7 grade and lower-unless you're in Algebra, don't get a graphing calc, you don't need it at all!!!!
8th grade-unless you're in Alegebra you don't need it but teachers are more likley to accept them now.
9th grade- go with the Ti83+Silver Edition, or just the Ti83+. Most of us are all in Alegebra by now and we are starting to use them in Math . . .
10th grade-get it! Ti83,83+,SE, or 85 are okay, but the 85 might be questionable with some teachers. . . .
11th grade-same as 10th but the 85 and 86 are allowed.
12th-anything goes, unless it's a Voyage200, and some teachers might, but probably won't steal it.
College+-ANYTHING WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!
I think this is correct . . .
