Download MirageOS and put it on your calculator. Just run it and then press [ALPHA] to get to the options screen.

Edit: If you were going to write a password program, you'd want to do it in assembly. Pressing [ON] would immediately render such a program written in BASIC useless.

Yeah, Bullfrog is right, MirageOS is a good choice for locking, in MirageOS once you get to options, input password and when to ask it, the only caveat is that you have to turn off the calculator in MirageOS for it to take affect. BASIC programs won't work.Another method is to use the TI app which displays a picture/runs a progarm on startup. Have it run a passwording ASM program that turns the calc off when it doesn't get the right password. The downside to this is that all apps occupy 16 kilobytes of space, so it'd take more room than MirageOS.

Yah, NikkyPass is good, (Well, I did make it). If you have an SE, or really, really care about security (Like I do) download krolypto, from www.ticalc.org, krolypto is the best in security...but it is an app, so you might want to go with calcfreak's suggestion...

Unless you're using it as something else as well (mIrage is both a shell and password protector), it's not worth using an app for PW protect. They use up too much mem. get Mirage, or use something small like NikkyPass.

Yeah, those are the best. I like Nikky Password better for password protection because it doesn't clear your RAM, and I find MirageOS is always clearing my RAM. :(

Do you have a Silver? Mirage isn't buggy at all on my regular 83+, but I heard it doesn't run well on a Silver. Of course, Detacheds makes a lot of good software with serious bugs. Case in point: Omnicalc aka Omnicrash aka Omnicrap.

There are some pretty awesome password programs for the 89. One of my favorites is where you have to press [ON] and any other number of keypresses to actually turn the calc on. It's pretty sweet.

Another option is just carry your calculator in your pocket so no one can steal it. :sunglasses2:

I've never had omnicalc crash, but maybe it's because I don't use the fonthooks, it works fine even with symbolic installed, (or maybe it's the other math app from detacheds). Regardless, the 89 still does everything math-related better, even if the 83 has apps.

That'll probably go straight over their head, sadly enough.

Perhaps there is a way to "lock" threads after a certain amount of time?

Actually, I like the spinning head guy. insane_juggalo did post somethings of vaule; he added to the discussion. But, he/she is new, perhaps you should let it go this time. (?) -CalcFreakBut, just to add to the discussion, I really do suggest either MirageOS or Nikky Password for an 83+.

I think animations in avatar is fine, but putting a random animation several times in a post is a distraction and pointless.

reviving old threads isn't always not ok, in this case i wouldn't feel he added much. I don't consider a "yeah, person above is right" post to be very constructive.
