I lost my TI-84 Plus calculator.

HOW can I find it?

It was officially stolen, thanks to accurate evidence.

Go look for it. That's generally the best way to find something. Unless, of course, these new TI-84's have little legs that they can walk with right back to you.

Though if it was stolen, you probably should have some help in getting it back.

Did you keep the calc's ID? On the about menu, there should be ID's, and, of course, the serial number. But good luck, they don't have GPS beepers or anything.

Yeah, if it was in school you'll only have chances of finding (and proving it's yours) if you know it's ID. my friend had such an accident and to his good luck school security was able to find the calc. turns out someone was stupid enough to steal and use it in the same school. other than that, good luck finding it because you'd usually have very little change. in future make sure to keep your calc with you or at least where you can see it so that this case doesn't happen again.

Or put krolypto on your calc and use the lockdown feature. It doesn't prevent theft, but does prevent use. :-) And taking out the batteries doens't work either.

Does you school have cameras, by any chance?

If you had something distinct like your name etched into the surface on the back or some other distinct scratch on it, that might help.
Just do what you'd do if something else of value got stolen. It's not like calcs are any different.

You don't find it ever again. i have lost 3 TI-83+es in my time [pretty sad, eh? {that's also why i have 5 standard IO cables listed under accessories}] and i have never even heard of them again. If it was stolen, the best place to go is your local electronics store [i.e. buy a new one]

This is a hot topic.

What do I do with the ID number??

I'm poor, terribly poor.

I'm currently at a depression state.

If you knew the ID number, and found whoever stole your calculator, you could use the ID number to prove it's yours.

Almost everytime a calculator is lost, it'll never be foudn again, almost everybody has a graphing calculator by high school, you can't really go inspecting every person's calculator looking for some little mark. If you maybe you had soemthing really unique with your calculator you stand a chance (maybe those colored cases are worth it!)

But then they could just take the case off, i think. Great thought, though. Also, you can use MirageOS's password option to secure your calc. a person has about, oh a
1 in 3,347,222,217,424,758,138,359,922,538,214,353,220,668,382,566,034,579,
795,214,336 chance of breaking the code

EDIT: Pretty slim, eh? :)

unless you remove the batteries... mirageOS isn't really that secure...

but I already addressed the option of securing you calc w/ a password in a post above...

You just need to get the RAM reset and MirageOS loses all its hooks it had installed - including the password. Just delete the appvar and the calculator is yours.

ya, except the appvar is stored in the archivwe by default, so you'd have to take out all 5 batteries and let the calc sit for 6 hours. Also, if you steal the calc, you're most likely not gonna know the battery trick anyways.

Still, even if the guy doesn't know how to get rid of Mirage's password, just having it on there doesn't prevent the guy from stealing the calculator.

He may even go to an internet forum and say he forgot his password, and the nice people will tell him to leave the batteries out until the AppVar goes away.

Yes, I consider the krolypto lockdown password a small consolation, like a thief takes some car steros, they have it, but it woun't work. It makes you feel better....

i don't know if that would make you better but it wouldn't make me feel better. you still have your thing stolen so why would it matter if the thief can use it or not? either way he's still got your thing. i dunno, maybe it would kinda give some the last laugh sorta thing...

some thieves have been caught that way...but can't be too common an object or else you have to search from too much stuff.
