I am having the same problems as i did a month ago with TI-Connect...I've Emailed TI but they are slow to respond, anyone with any helpful ideas? Every time i try to use it on my TI-89T, the "Illegal Operation" message appears, along with the details that it caused a fault in the .dll file that runs Connect for the 89T.

Once again, TI is slow to react, anyone got any ideas?

Try this:
  1. Download the latest version of ti-connect, available here
  2. Uninstall onld version of Ti-connect and install new version
  3. Plug USB cord fully and completely into the computer (USB end) and the calculator (2.5 mm male end)
  4. Start up TI-connect and click TI device info to get information about the calculator (just to make sure it is working properly)
  5. Quit that and start up the device explorer. From there, it should pull up a screen with your calculator's memory image on it. Drag programs onto the calculator tab to put them in the RAM and on the Flash/archive tab to put it in the archive.
If all that fails, blow up your computer and get a new one. Try doing something fun with it like using its parts for paintballing practice.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and repeated many times... this seems to have no effect. It looks like a internal problem, i have deleted all the files that pertain to Connect after i uninstall it, even messed with the registry (i did make a back-up), but all this has no effect. I had 1.5 for a while, then i had this problem with it, then i downloaded 1.6 (took an hour on my stupid dial-up) and the problem was gone for a while, until now...plus every time i try to use anything on Connect, it comes up with the "Illegal Operation" message, as i said above. This is becoming a problem, interfereing with my interest in becoming a programmer (even though i dont have any normal TI-89 ROM images to test my programs in VTI.)

Anyone else with ideas? I will try what Lunchbox stated above.

Can ya tell us what dll file caused the problem (it should tell you in the error msg)?
Second, try to scan your comp for spyware and viruses, you never know what those pests will screw up next time.

I have been having the same problem (I posted a topic about it called "TI-Connect Problems about a month ago). Are you using the USB direct cable that came with the calculator? TI says they have had many reports of problems while using that cable. I e-mailed them, and they told me that they will try to find a solution, but in the meantime they will send me a TI-Silverlink USB cable and see if that works. I'm currently waiting for the cable to come, and I'll post again if it works

Hm, answer to Andy is Windows 98 English. (service pack?)

To Z, its TI89TTALK.dll (the file running Connect for the 89T) and no, i have no viruses or spyware that i know of (last time i fixed the problem by downloading 1.6, no im having the exact same problem)

To wnh, yeah im using the USB cable that came with it.

TI sent an E-mail asking the basic questions of
1.) What Version of Windows
2.) uhhhh...forgot (will update)
3.) Did you uninstall the 1.5 or did you let 1.6 uninstall it

Answering those questions, 98, (), and i manually uninstalled with the uninstall button.

This is becoming annoying since i have no normal 89 ROM to practice my programs on with VTI.

I'm not so sure how well TI-Connect works on Windows 98 anymore... Even Microsoft doesn't support it anymore. TI's probably going to tell you to get Windows XP. >.<

nope... but like they said, getting XP would probably help... (i feel so horrible... im spreading the plague)

if you cant get XP, see if you could get 2000...(wonderful stuff, as long as you dont mess up the Admin rights...)

Yeah, Ti-Connect v1.3 works with Win98, but it's not compatible with the Titanium. TI has told me that you shouldn't even try to use v1.4 and above with 98.

If you're gonna upgrade, get either Windows 2000 or 2003. XP is buggy and nothing runs on ME (I have ME, unfortunately :img21: ).

XP is buggy? I've had this XP box on for over a week without a reboot, I've had no problems with it.

Week without reboot just means it doesn't hog RAM...

The biggest problem for me in upgrading past 98 is the following (one one of my omputers, the one connected to the net):

56M RAM
Lotsa crappy programs that someone left on and didnt delete properly
Crappy processor
Barely runs 98 as is

So basically im screwed for now, until i can either get another computer (unlikely) or find a way to get it work as is.

Besides the ram, a reformat would solve all of those problems. :-)

I got my silverlink cable today from TI, and it worked fine on my Titanium with all of the TI-Connect functions. Maybe you should try getting one of those. TI-Connect must be having problems with the direct USB cable. TI should e-mail me soon with a possible solution for using the direct cable, and I'll tell you if it works.

Apparently, both the install file and the .dll file coming from it were corrupted, according to TI. I redownloaded 1.6 (another hour on dial up) and it works fine for now. Hope this doesnt happen again (knocks on wood).

I download a game that i want to download and it downloads as a zipped file and when i right click some of the contents in the file and send it to my TI 84 silver plus it ends up as a program and wont run. I was wondering how to send a file through the TI Connect and why is it not working and allowing me to download all of the game onto my calc? I was also wondering how to send games through TI Connect?

P.S. Could someone please help me out in this situation!!

Read this.Basically, they won't run because you need a shell. See the above link.

I found that i have that problem too, dont send the programs straight from the zip file, extract them then send em. Make a file where you can just unload a bunch of zips and send them all to your calc at the same time.
