Yesterday I had an end of the year math test thing. They cleared the whole memory of my calculator, not just RAM. So when I got home I redownloaded the games from the computer to my calc. They were as follows

Asteroids
Mario v2.0
R-Type
Cave
Rogue (The Flash App)

After I sent Rogue, I was going to send a program that I was in the process of making. I backed it up on the computer specifically for the purpose of them clearing the calculator, and it said it couldn't find the TI-Device. So I reinstalled TI-Connect and it still didn't work. So I thought no big deal Ill get it from my friend who had it on his calc tomorow. But my friends calc also did not register that there was another calculator hooked up to it.

I have tried to supply as much information as I can, so help would be apreciated.

You probably didn't have the link all the way in either the usb hub on your computer (got jiggled out slightly, maybe) or didn't have the link plugged all the way in to your calc. That is the source of the error message "Cannot find TI device" 99% of the time.

Edit
Try cleaning the contacts of the link, and I am not sure if there is anything small enough to fit inside the calcs link port to clean it...

You can prolly use a cotton swab to clean the link port or if that doesn't fit probably a paper clip with some cotton on it (make sure the calc is turned off and removing batteries is also a good idea if you're to clean it this way).

I tried all this and it still doesnt work. I am pretty sure that it isnt a problem with the usb part of the cable because when i plug it in the computer gives its little *beep* of recognization that some new hardware was put in it. There isnt anything in the linkport either because i tried cleaning it out. Could an asm program have messed with the linking capabilities of it? I thought i saw a prorgram over at TI-calc which could disable and enable the linking thing so i might try that if anyone thinks it could help.

if your computer makes a *ding* noise when you plug in the calc, then it there it means that energy is succesfully flowing between the calc and the computer. it also means your computer has recognized the device (unless a little icon appears on the taskbar asking to install the hardware). sometimes my Ticonnect wont connect after i have been running VTI, and i have to reboot.

If rebooting doesnt work (i'm sure you've tried it, but it doesnt hurt to try again), you could always trying reinstalling the USB driver...

I had a problem with my silver link, and had to get rid of it. If you can, see about getting the old style cable, because I have no troubles with that, and TI-Connect is capable of using it.

rebooting didnt work, i tried reinstalling the drivers but that also didnt work, so if no one has any other suggestions im going to try that program.

EDIT: I dont think that it is a problem with the cord or the computer i think it is with the calc.

EDIT: also just realized i cant use that program because i cant send it to my calc.

the computer doesnt recognize the cable, electricity has to be flowing from the computer to a DEVICE, not a cable...

EDIT: No harm done, i wasnt paying attention...

I can go plug my link cable in right now, and it will pop up wanting to know if I want to install the drivers for it. It is the same with any usb device that I have ever tangled with.

If it won't link with another calculator then there is a hardware issue with the calculator. Call TI-Cares.

The computer doesn't recognize the cable as Alex said before. It recognizes that there is something on the other end of the cable, but when you try and run TI-connect, it probably recieves a faulty signal from the other end of the cable, therefore having it respond that it cannot detect the attatched calc. If an assembly program shut off your link port, which it can do (not really shut down, but similar), then it should be reinstated by the interrupt generated when you plug the cable in. Most likely, you have busted your link port somehow. I came across a TI-82 like this a while back, with the same problem. You either need to geet a new calculator or figure out how to replace the link port without totally screwing up your calculator. The former is more highly recommended, because the latter will void your warranty.

I might as well start saving for another calculator, would it be worth it to save for a TI-89 or should i just replace the 83+?

depends what you plan to do with it. if you want another 8X series, dont get an 83+, get an 84+SE, or 84+ (files are compatible between the entire series, so you dont lose data)...

if you plan to go to college, you may as well go ahead and get the 89...

Cleaning the port with any type of liquid will cause you to void the warranty.

Information regarding warranty can be found by clicking on Texas Instruments website below.

I took algebra II in 9th gradee, and that's about as advanced as you get. I believe it is possiblee to do it in 8th grade, but not through the middle school. Again, CA schools are probably different.

yeah, you arent suppposed to take Algebra II until 11th grade at my school, (they assume we're idiots, and say "one math a year makes four!"... i'm in Alg2 honors now, and only in 10th... my middle school didnt have Algebra 1 in 8th grade, so i got gypped out of being a freshman in Alg2
