smchronos's Page Covered in Shadows | So, I've started learning some C using TIGCC and I am pleased at how easy it is to use.
I've had an idea in my head for several weeks now, and I think I might try and make it.
I'll give it the title Covered in Shadows for now. It is basically going to be a tactical RPG using a mixture of 8x8, 16x16, and 32x32 sprites (so I can use the sprite drawing features with ease). I have already successfully tested gray scaling an image (after drawing it in a simple sprite utility that outputs the hex for me). I think I am nearly ready to start making the graphics. I want to have all of my materials ready before I start working on the code. That way, I can simply plug them in rather than having to stop, make a graphic, and then continue.
The basic features I want to see are: -Tile-based system (not a picture map). Each tile will be 16x16. -Scrolling for battle grids (that way it isn't limited to a narrow map). -Battle scenes like Fire Emblem (except a little simpler, most likely just using simple slashes and not moving the main sprites). -Dialogue (I want something a little better and more interactive). -Interesting battle system (I already have an idea of what I want to use and how it will tie into the plot). -Non-storyline characters (I would like to have those available). -500 total characters (a total of 1000 sprites, 500 are 8x8 or 16x16 for tiles and the other 500 are for battle scenes). This includes a large chunk of my idea. -Replay value (I believe a game isn't good if it has nearly zero replay value - I want something that makes it interesting even when you have every item in the game... something that will make you still play for a few hours). -Multiplayer (although I doubt many people will download this; having a filepack system would be good so people can play against each other... maybe over a cable). -Speedy graphics (I have tested the sprite8, sprite16, and sprite32 with gray scale and it isn't as fast as I had hoped; however, I am not going to give up. I have experience working with slower graphic rendering systems and how to jump over them. I will just have to spend some time figuring out a buffer system, although one might already exist so I am still going to look). -Music (This is more of a wish. I have seen some simple music programs on various sites like TiCalc; however, I am sure the size makes the appeal not worth the cost).

Now a Member | Hello everyone. I am a new member of http//calcg.org and hope to make the best of my time here. I am an avid programmer of several languages including Visual Basic 6, VB.NET (surface), C++ (surface), Java (surface), Python (surface), TI-BASIC, C, and Actionscript 3.0 (surface). By surface, I mean that I know enough to make some simple programs, but I cannot produce something complex.
Anyway, this place seems to have one of the only active communities for the TI calculators, so I figured that I would sign up.
Expect to see something fun from me in the future.
