Total Posts: 96 | No, this is not about installing itunes on a linux operating system, this is about ipod linux. (if you have never heard of this and would like more information please visit www.ipodlinux.org )
Has anyone ever heard of this? Because the installer is only for Windows XP and the only computers I have access to are Windows 2000. (My mom has a Windows XP, but she is hesitant to let me use it.... gee I wonder why that is.... >:) anyway. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the installer to work on a Windows 2000 computer without any major configuring. I only need it for the initial installation. After linux is installed on the ipod updates are viable from a windows 2000 OS. I have done this before from my mom's laptop but really don't want to inconvenience her again.
PS: I am only going to use the supported method of installation. Also I am not willing to do the installation manually.
The following is more info on ipod linux and is not neccessary to read unless you want information on why ipod linux is so awesome:
Pros: Ipod linux is a great way to play videos on your ipod nano, photo, or other compatable ipod. It is completely free (not counting buying the ipod) and the supported method very rarely (if at all) "bricks" your ipod as long as you follow the instructions in the guide. Dual booting is possible, meaning you can choose the ipod OS if you want to (good for playing protected files.) There are homemade games that are just as good as the ones itunes sells, but these are completely free. Updating your ipod no longer requires itunes (which is amazingly slow on windows computers) you simply have to use windows explorer to drag-n-drop.
Cons: It doesn't play protected music files and requires video files to be converted in order for them to work. The music files should not be a problem since itunes released itunes plus, (no protection on files) and if you just don't want to pay for the upgrade, you could always dual boot. Video conversion takes a while, but then again, it is worth it in the long run. On the ipod nano viewing videos is tough because of the small screen size and low resolution.

Total Posts: 3 | Hey I've been doing ipodlinux for about four years now I used to have a mini but now I use a video (for emulation and stuff idoom rocks) ok lets see there are some installers that install more than just pz0 that work with 2000 i think if you go into the forums under instalation from microsoft the it's called tripple threat and it is stickied try using that it works great than take a look at iLaunch if you get that installed awsome launcher for games and if that dosnt work rockbox is awsome and it lets you play your music
btw what type of ipod do you have? |
