Our Algebra II class has just started these. What I want to know is, is there a program or application out there for the TI-83/84 series that can do logX()? I ask because most of the time we do logarithms with bases other than ten. Log base 2, for example.

there's a really simple way to do that.

it involves division... it's been like 8 years since i've done it, so i can't think of it off the top of my head... but it might be:

ln(number)/ln(base)

You should be learning that trick soon if you haven't already.

Make a simple program on your calc then show it to your teacher. It's fun to see their reaction.

It is much easier to suggest solutions when you know nothing about the problem.

I think I will. It's not going to generate much reaction, though, for two main reasons:

1. He was a programmer before he went to math teaching.

2. He didn't seem to care that there was an X-root function on the calc, stopping the mandate for A^1/X-type stuff.

(Actually, I already made the program la tarde pasada. I just didn't think of showing anyone.)
