It's a dell xps 400, and it's really fast and has great graphics and stuff, so I'm happy, because I can do tons of things that I wasn't able to do on my old machine. It also came with a 20.5 inch flat panel monitor (sweetness!).
I do have an issue, though, and since microsoft's website was reluctant to help, I thought I'd inquire here, because I don't know a bigger bunch of computer braniacs anywhere else. That having been said, my issue is that the Windows Installer does not function correctly most of the time. I was able to install some fairly old games on my machine, which, coincidentally, have one install CD. So, I install those and they run fine, though they needed some tweaking before they were perfect, but I went to install some newer games, ones that were, oddly enough, designed for Windows XP (which I am rnning btw, SP2) and they do not install correctly. The error usually occurs when I try to insert the second install disk of a game: it will ask me for the disk, I'll put it in, click ok, and it'll freeze. I updated the Windows Installer program itself to the newest version, with all the bug fixes and stuff, but it still fails! Gah!!!!1 It's so f***ing annoying. Does anyone lnow what's wrong/how I can fix it? I would greatly appreciate this, as I have not yet been able to test the capabilities of my new machine :D . |

Edit- hold on i see that some programs need Windows Installer program the install right?
Also did you know this The first release of 3.1 had to be withdrawn due to a bug, so this means this has the rather confusing title of Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2). It makes us wonder why they didn't simply call it version 3.2
you should be able to download a good copy here http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/winstallxpdownload.html or http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56 -4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&DisplayLang=en
i DO NOT guarenty the above (non-microsoft) download link is safe
