stephendonnelly88 Dragoon Posted: 9 Jan 2006 21:13 GMT Total Posts: 97 | This topic begs an ever-looming question that the software industry has yet to effectively answer: If it is unethical to download stuff (software, music, etc.) without paying for it, Are those companies which produce such material an more ethical in the prices they charge for their products?
One day, all the morals and ethicalness in this area will mean nothing. Let's face it: It is only going to get [quickly] increasingly easier for people to obtain expensive software/music without paying for it. This increase in piracy will, in turn, force the software companies to keep (or decrease) the prices they charge.
If software was not so dang expensive, piracy would not be as pervasive as it currently is. Piracy would still happen even if they only charged a dollar for evenerything, but the problem would be less likely to grow so quickly. :) |
