Just bought me a Ti83+, since my math teacher was all up in arms about me having a Ti89. Which of the shells provides the most versatility for the 83+?

Thanks!

ION just lets you run a few programs and takes up a couple KB of RAM. MirageOS lets you run MirageOS-oriented programs (it says in the readme of the program) and allows tasker/key hook and other settings such as memory protection (can't access memory manage/del menu). It also automatically allows lowercase lettering. It's arranged in a Windows Explorer-type setting where you can make/edit/rename/delete folders, sort files into folders, rename things, etc. This shell is compatible with ION programs for the most part. Unless it says it's compatible you kinda have to experiment.
Something that's not really a shell is Omnicalc, which allows lowercase lettering, memory protections, an entry list (when you use 2nd-Entry it'll give you a list instead of displaying the last thing you typed in), and several other options, along with several additional commands such as sprite(, subf(, and Rom->Dec.

So I'd go with MirageOS (as a shell), Omnicalc, or both. You can always send the apps that came with the calc (SciTools, Probability Simulator, etc) back later so you have more room.
