When using the BASIC functions that Omnicalc has to offer, if I made a program that used some of them, would everyone that downloaded that program need to have Omnicalc in order for it to work? If so, I don't really like the idea that people are forced to get something they might not want (especially an app) just to be able to run the thing. Or does the real( commands on all of them make it more calc-friendly? What does the extra first value do, anyway? (real(##,##) rather than real(#) )

When run on a calc without Omnicalc installed, a program which uses Omnicalc functions will produce an "VERSION" error. If you try including Omnicalc functions in your BASIC prog, and then uninstalling Omnicalc, try to edit the program and you'll get strange results where the Omnicalc functions used to be.

So basically everone who runs such a program needs Omnicalc? Crap...

Also, has anyone else noticed that the "disable Finance in apps menu" doesn't work? It's supposed to get rid of it from the menu, right?

Yeah, you would ened to install Omnicalc.

Possibly it's designed for a newer/older OS version on the 83-series so it doesn't work...

Oh yeah, another question...when using Lite 8x, does it compress ASMprograms without any strings attached, besides that you need Omnicalc present (so they'll work fine without needing some spiffy shell or anything)?
Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to use Lite 8x to compress it, then use the CrunchyOS compressor to make it even smaller?

To answer questions about specific Omnicalc functions, you should probably check www.detachedsolutions.com.

About the compression, I don't see why it wouldn't work in theory, but compressing an already compressed program is not very practical since previously compressed data will not compress as easily/much a 2nd time (and not at all in some cases). The amount of memory saved by compressing a program a second time will most likely be negligible.

Hmph, the first thing it says about Lite 8x:

Q1: When I try to run my Lite8x compressed program, it says that insufficient RAM is available. Why?
A1: In order to maintain full compatibility with Ion, MirageOS, and other shells, Omnicalc must keep both the compressed program and decompressed program in RAM. Therefore, the free RAM required is equal to the original program size plus the new compressed size.

Well, that's completely pointless, isn't it? You just take up more memory, so you can't take advantage of a compressed program if you want to use a shell program.

well, that's just temporary use of ram. People usually keep stuff in flash anyways, so you can save a little bit of flash memory.

It says it keeps compatibility with ion/mirageos, so you can use it with a shell program, while running, you use more ram, but when not running, you're saving flash space.
