I am thinking of getting the TI-89Ti andi was wondering if the programs that are written for 84, 86 etc models, would work on the 89?

Lets get to the point, if something has a diferrent type of proccessor than another, chances are, they are not compatible.

You sound like Ray Allyn :) . And to be more specific than just no mondan, the reason is not only because they have different processors, but they also have slightly different languages in which the programs are written. Also, the system variables, flags, registers, OPs, etc. are totally different between calculators. That's why you'll here about games that have been ported, or changed from one calculator's format to fit another.
