Hi, I'm BRAND new to this, so I'm a little dumb about it.

I have a TI-84+. I've downloaded and installed TI Connect. Everything I have read says that the calculator SHOULD run .zip files, and that all I have to do is drag the icon onto the TIDevice Explorer. I tried that, and the Explorer ends up not responding. So I tried unzipping. That gives me files that end in .8xp or .83p or other similir file types. But they all say their TI Program Editor Program files. So the Explorer accepts them. So I go to the calculator and hit the PRGM button. Here's what it says:

EXEC EDIT NEW
1: ZTETRIS

So I hit 1. New screen:

prgmZTETRIS

I hit enter and get this:

ERR:SYNTAX
1: QUIT
(2: GOTO)*

*sometimes

I've tried various different files. I tried running a shell. But I'm really at a loss. What am I doing wrong????

You need either MirageOS or ION (MirageOS recommended) You can download them form the Shells link that is in the misc tab at the top of this page

download mirageos, available here, run that, then, while inside mirage, click on ztetris to run it. The reason you must run it through a shell is because it is an assembly-language program, quite unlike a normal TI-BASIC program. Look in other threads for a complete description of the differences if you want, they're scattered about somewhere.

I ran mirageos, and the main folder is empty. I still can't run anything.

you could try running it through the built in thing Asm(ztetris) but i'm not sure if it will work, and i'm also not sure if that you do get it to work that it wont clear your ram. I have never gotten it to work before myself.

Make sure you sent the .8xp file to your calculator, the .83p won't show up anywhere because the formatting is different.

Lunchbox, why are you providing the link to ticalc.org when MirageOS is also located here?

Not that it's any different from the copy you could get anywhere else, but you can also get it straight from the authors at www.detachedsolutions.com

True, but it's nice to bolster the stats on this site instead of others :D

In all honesty...MirageOS and Ion are equally as useful! MirageOS comes with a few extra features that aren't really needed, but I have learned in my time that MirageOs actually causes more problem than is helps! Of course coming from a programmer's standoint. Ion is simple, easy and I have never had it fail! But...it's all you choice...you just need one of them!
