So what is the basic story line right now?? |
greenorange Goliath Posted: 23 Feb 2005 06:33 GMT Total Posts: 199 | Nice game, kinda reminds me of the Zilak game I made a while ago. I based that around a Zelda clone that I played on the TI82. I remember that dealing with maps was my issue, because I had over 100 different map screens. And enemies, I had a ton of those guys too...

Your father was suspected to be a spy in the empires main reasearch facility. The empire has strict rules on dealing with spies, and they broke into your home and killed him... He was working on giving normal humans the ability to control the elements. Before he was killed he gave you a elixer that let you control the fires in your soul. You are bent out to destroy all that is good in the world and eliminate the empire...
so... you like?

TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 11:17 GMT Total Posts: Edit | There is also a bug in the beta, where you talk to the guy, and asks for a pass. I didn;t get a pass, he called me a liar, then it sent me to a different screen with ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhooooooooohhhhhhhh on it and when I moved, it gave an error:dimension. just FYI. :)
With all your work on this, it has prompted me to restart work on my AOD Revenge game, using the string system, now that I know that it works perfectly. :) More on this to come...

My rpg is nearly ready for beta testing, but needs a few things still: The set of quests and the quest detection system, a few bug fixes, and a bigger map set (currently a 5x5 square). If you have any ideas for good map areas, send them to me (must be 7 high by 16 wide), any submissions are greatly appreciated and you will get credit in the readme and on-calc credit program. Oh ya, send the ideas to alexgould17@yahoo.com |
TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 12:46 GMT Total Posts: Edit | Well, I am rebuilding my from scratch, because the length of time to load a screen (using 8x8 tiles) took a while. I think I might be able to speed up the routines.
Besides, I also plan on building an RPG out of my starter kit, just to prove the flexibility of the kit. :) It will of course wait until I get the AODR rebuilt with a new demo... |

TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 15:24 GMT Total Posts: Edit | It might...
Actually, what I think I will need to do is build a string algorithim to take everything after a certain point, store it to another string, subtract the bad stuff off of the first string, add the new string info, and have the second string replace what it took.
Only problem is, I am not sure that it is completely possible. It should be, but it is going to take some work. I will see if I can come up with something for you soon...
Or.... Wait a second... I have a new idea...

TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 15:40 GMT Total Posts: Edit | What I can do:
I can create a small program, that will display all the characters that you use, and they use a small cursor of some sort, and select the character that they need. They will be able to go, one at a time, it will display the map after each character selected, and if they mess up, they hit the delete button and it goes back. This is the same concept used in TI-City (83+ you should take a look at it's text command interface)
I have not figured out how to edit the middle of a string, yet, and I will still pursue this, however, this would be the best shot.
And the person building levels would have to paste the string into the program everytime he finished building a screen. There is now way in basic to do it automatically.
Otherwise, I will just have to play with code until I figure out how to edit mid-string...
If you look at the code for the text command interface for TI-City, you should be able to figure out what I am getting at, and build something similar on your own, if you wanted to do that. |

--- BASIC flames are for n00bs, you don't want to be a n00b do you? | My other calc is a Porsche. |
TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 15:45 GMT Total Posts: Edit | actually what it does:
looks at the string, goes to where it is told in the string, and looks at the length of characters it is told to look at. I am running into the same problem as you on that. That is why I said I would have to do some playing around, but I cannot garauntee success... |

TI Freak Probe Posted: 24 Feb 2005 16:07 GMT Total Posts: Edit | well, you would have to split the string in 2 after the spot you want to replace, then delete the character and replace it with the new one, and re-merge the 2 strings. |

Posted: 24 Feb 2005 18:56 GMT Total Posts: 2007 | Yes, but it works. You could create an algorithm to do this if you really needed it. Or you could use assembly, store the characters to a buffer, and overwrite the data whenever. |
