Whenever I do something like "-8^2" on ALL (73-v200) of the TI graphing calculators, it's will give me the incorrect answer. As you know "-8*-8=64" but if I type "-8^2" the answer it gives me is "-64". Am I being REALLY stupid, or did TI seriously mess up?

try (-8)^2

it might think you want the negative square root of 8

Nevermind, I figured it out. The calculator sees "-8^2" as "-(8)^2". So when I type "(-8)^2" It gives me the correct answer!

EDIT: Heh! Alex answered me WHILE I was typing this! :lmao_a:

Yep, it's because the calculator evaluates the ^ operation beofre the negation.

it's not because of the calculator, it's like that for all math, follow the order of operations. Parans, exponent, multiply/divide, add/subtract.
