when i hit device explorer on TI-connect it said: "TI-83 Plus Silver Edition detected, but couldn't get status." i dont know what it means or how to fix it. it worked the day before. i reinstalled the link and it still didnt work. if anyone knows whats wrong pleae reply.

ok... lets see...

ray is right, it could be low batteries. try going to the TI Device Info button (under ticonnect).

what link cable do you have?

Either your OS is messed up (not likely), your link port is messed up (even less likely), or, as Ray said, your batteries are low.
