I recently made some mario levels that I would like to post here. I was trying to copy them from my calculator to my computor, but it keeps saying "The name for the current variable is missing." I renamed it and it has the .8xp and everything! I don't know what to do.

P.S. I am using the "Explore TI Device" program in TI connect.

Hmm... I've never found a way to get rid of that... did you try renaming it to something short, no spaces, no lowercase?

How do I rename it? If you mean by clicking rename when it says this, then yes, I've tried everything. But how do I rename the actual file on the calc?

I don't think you can do that...

I think I had actually lost some levels from that...

Is there a replacement for TI Connect?

No, there isn't. There is only the preceding Graph Link or third party software.

To rename the file on the calc:

1. Right click on the file you want to rename and click "properties"
2. Click on the tab that says "TI File Properties"
3. Then you can change the variable name. No spaces, and all caps

This should work. If not, you should probably reinstall TI-Connect or get another linking program.

If you wanted to rename the file on your calc and you don't have access to a computer, you can make a new program and give it the name you want to rename the old one with. Then use Rcl prgm<name> and it'll copy the entire file into the new empty one. Then just delete the old one. More time consuming, but neccessary if you need to do it and can't get to a computer.

Except that doesn't work on ASM programs or AppVars.

Actually, they aren't. They're binary files, but the same holds true. *revises previous statement*

Except that doesn't work on ASM programs, binary data programs ("external levels"), or AppVars.

In all technicalities, the calculator views them as an asm prog, but true, it is merely binary data generated by the level editor.

when i right click it, it doesn't say the TI properties or whatever. Just open and delete.

Nope. Mac sucks. I re-installed TI Calc, I've renamed it everything in the book, I've done all I know to do. I'm just going to forget it.

... Mac OS previous to X sucked. Mac OS X doesn't suck, and the hardware certainly doesn't suck. They whoop wintel machines' buttox on photoshop, which is why my university's (U of Akron (OH)) graphic design major requires projects to be done on a Mac with Mac-only software.
