(Wow I finally found an active TI forum)

I have TI-89 Titanium, and I've been using it for almost 1.5 years now.

To get to my question, my USB doesn't work anymore, is there a way to fix it?

To explain the situation:
I used my digital camera cables to transfer files. I did it many times, and all the sudden it stopped working. At first I thought it was the USB connection problem because it frequently happens with my digital camera.
So, I tried it on different computers, but no good.

I tried connecting my brother's TI 89 and it works totally fine on my computer!

So I guess there is something wrong with my calculator.
BTW, it turns on when I connect it, but computer does not recognize any device!

What might be the problem? Is there any hope? I really want to be able to use my USB port. (I've been using my brother's calculator to transfer files to mine)

It's possible something in the USB port got loose. Since you've had it for 1.5 years, it'd be out of warranty... You could try emailing ti-cares still, and see if they'll send you a SilverLink... I've heard that people have managed to get them to do that. If they won't send you one, you can go buy one for $15 or so. It plugs into the I/O port and will let you transfer files with the computer just fine.

Theres a loose connection between the port and the rest of the calc, it most likely couldn't hurt to pop it open and attempt to solder it back. Theres something about this on MC i think...

I think someone on IRC too said that they had a piece of pencil graphite in the port, and they had to remove it before it would link, so check and see if anything is in the port.

Thanks for the information guys.

I tried to search on MC, but couldn't find any thread about it. Maybe I should look harder.

I thought about opening the calculator, but those hexagon shaped screws stopped me. I don't have anything in my house that can open that thing.

So I should open my calculator.

Is there any guide to opening the calculator or something like that with pictures and all?

Hmmm... I've got a fair amount of experience with electronics (not necessarily calculators, mostly computers), and it doesn't seem like the best idea to open up the calculator, unless it is a last resort. ***Keep in mind that any static electricity or scratches on any circuitboards will render it useless***. (You probably already know that, but I'm just making sure, to be safe...)

You need a properly sized Torx screwdriver. There are ~6 screws scattered around. Once the screws are off, carefully pry the two halves apart. I *THINK* the "bottom" (top when looking at the screws) half isn't attached to the other half, but it's been so long I don't remember -- and I've never looked inside an 84+.

it can't be too fun to try to resolder the port to the board because the leads are probably close together.
