I got my calculator back from a friend & now the number keys are sticky, they are hard to press down. I believe something got spilt on it, but am unsure.

Is there a way to take the case apart to clean the inside?
Should I send it in or what?

Thanks

Edit
I would recommend sending it in, because there is a lot of sensitive stuff in there, but it is possible to dissassemble it...

Cleaning is pretty easy. Be careful when you take it apart and open it. Rub the underside of the keys with a dry cloth (a cloth diaper is the best) and carefully do the same on the place where the keys meet the chip. Then put it back together (make sure you've got the keys on right) and enjoy.

Actually, it is possible to clean electronics (including calculators) using a normal clothes washing machine. Naturally, you'd have to be very careful as to temperature, and you should not use much soap, but it is possible. However, you'd have to wait for a long time to let it dry completely. Also, you'd have to put it in the pocket of something so that it doesn't hit anything in there.

I don't suggest his, but I have seen it done (twice , actually), and wanted to put it out there. Kinda cool, actually.

I get this image of a calc bouncing around in a metal tub, I really don't see it surviving. especialy if it doesn't have it's case. don't forget to remove all of the batteries though.

Oh, no, you'd certainly want the case on it, and I don't suggest, but I have seen it done.

it'd probably be okay if the water was purely distilled.

It would probably be possible to clean yourself, but if the 89 is anything like my 84, it won't have normal screws and you might have a hard time removing them if you don't have the right kind of screw driver.

The screws you speak of aren't actually that abnormal. That kind of allan key/star key can be found at most hardware stores, and, if not, an electronics store.

That's why I hate lending things to others, noone cares but about their own things.
