escudo825 Probe Posted: 7 Jul 2006 09:00 GMT Total Posts: 14 | I've picked up programming assembly. but when I managed to crash my calculator a few times I decided I needed to use an emulator. but I can't find out how to get a rom dump through a usb port. is there a program that supports it or will I have to get a serial cable just for one rom dump? |

Posted: 8 Jul 2006 13:44 GMT Total Posts: 542 | that is totally untru 3fg. i am emulating my ti84+se rite now. it is exactly how calcul831415 said it is, too. you need two programms from ROM8X, the ones for the ti84+SE only. follow the instuctions in getting a rom image. then dl tilem. put the rom image in the directory of the tilem, and start it up.
but we're not done.
when you get a pic of the ti84+SE on the screen, it should be black and wont do nothing. now you must rite click on the screen and choose "load". you must find the directory where the OS for your calc is located. You have a ti84+SE, so it came with a CD. on that CD the OS is located. if you didnt install it, do it now. the OS will be located in te TI-conect directory. if you dont have that cd, or ti-conect is not loaded on your comp, then you will need to dl it from TI's web site. once the OS is loaded, you can now operate. email if you have trouble.

I forget what the names are suppose to be :( And I don't think I have a readme. |

escudo825 Probe Posted: 10 Jul 2006 20:15 GMT Total Posts: 14 | well I got the rom dump and tilem works fine, except one problem. I got the calculator picture up and right clicked on the blank screen and I couldn't read anything. all I saw was those little blocks you see when the computer doesn't understand what character too put.
the only problem I could think of it tilem using a different text standard than windows. but that doesn't make sense.
wait...that was on my families windows ME machine. it seems to work fine on our XP computer. but I spend most of my time on the ME since no one else uses it. does anyone know what the problem may be?

escudo825 Probe Posted: 11 Jul 2006 20:29 GMT Total Posts: 14 | what do you mean? I have ti-connect installed on that computer, and the emulator works once everything is loaded. the drop down menu just doesn't show text. |
calcul831415 Marine Posted: 12 Jul 2006 05:32 GMT Total Posts: 33 | You did get the GTK library right? I assume you did otherwise you probably won't have the calc image. |

Posted: 12 Jul 2006 09:33 GMT Total Posts: 689 | There is supposed to be a CD that comes with your calculator. It has links and stuff on it, including fonts. Did you buy your calculator used? Because if it was new it should have included the CD.

escudo825 Probe Posted: 12 Jul 2006 15:46 GMT Total Posts: 14 | I have the CD, I just don't remember hearing about any font things. but I'm going to look soon. I should be back if it doesn't work.
and yeas I did install the GTK library. |
Andy Administrator Posted: 12 Jul 2006 15:56 GMT Total Posts: 939 | Not having the calculator fonts has nothing to do with the emulator not displaying the proper characters on the screen! It is bitmapping the display, and the ROM has the fonts in it to do so.
Installing the fonts won't help any.
I haven't used tilem, but I'm sure there's a way to have it reset the emulated calculator. Try doing that. |
escudo825 Probe Posted: 12 Jul 2006 18:28 GMT Total Posts: 14 | okay I'll see what that does. I just don't know why it works fine in one OS and not in another. |

Andy Administrator Posted: 13 Jul 2006 05:25 GMT Total Posts: 939 | As much as I would like to agree with you on that, L, I doubt that's the case.
I mean about it being WinME's fault about it not working, not that WinME sucks. |

escudo825 Probe Posted: 13 Jul 2006 22:46 GMT Total Posts: 14 | well they are both e-machines. so that isn't the problem. all that's left is the intel processor and intel graphics card on the un-cooperative computer. the working one has an AMD XP 2200 and A S3 graphics card. I guess I'll just have to put my calc on a limb for now to program assembly.p.s. I'll get a screenshot of what's going on so the problems alittle more clear.edit: here's the screenshot<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/escudo825/untitled.jpg" alt="clicky">
edit: I just remembered another potential problem, XP is in the windows NT family. and ME is part of the 9x family. and if I remember right they are VERY different. in fact I remember wandering around msdn before and in most of the c++ commands it tells you which versions of windows it's compatible with, 9x, NT, or both. so the problem could be from some NT specific instruction.

Just right click the program (itself, not a shortcut) and go to the compatibility tab. Select which OS for Windows to pretend to be, and then press OK. Then run it.

escudo825 Probe Posted: 17 Jul 2006 21:05 GMT Total Posts: 14 | @banjo2e: XP is the only OS to have the compatibility wizard. I ran it and it still ran as it always does in XP, which is perfect. so the OS may not be the problem.
@Liebe: I was joking, but there is almost completly differnt hardware between my ME and my XP. and wierd things happen with technology sometimes, with many things besides "killer apps".
either way I can't get my screen shot to display correctly. so just copy and paste this link to see what I'm talking about.
