RevSoft Revolutionizes Calculators w/New Releases

There is news of two projects coming out of RevSoft. The first, pictured to the right, is a remake of the T&T Software game Spacestation Pheta, by Paul Bellar (aka threefingeredguy). SSP is a side-scrolling space climber. It may not sound like much, but it's quite fun.

Perhaps more exciting is Jim e's real .wav player. You can find a Windows Media video (1.15MB) on that page, or you can download an MPEG file (1.74 MB) showing you the results of this amazing achievement.

I appologize for the abbreviation in the title, but our silly post script has a 50 character limit.

Yeah, very good sound quality indeed. This is the first time I hear something that good on a calc. Before this proggy the only decent quality of sound was from some wav player for 86, 83x was all junk. This piece of software really shines, now folks have to figure out how to compress it :). well, there's very little that can be done as far as compression goes. the only way to do it is to build a multitasking program that can do both real-time expansion of the data (with moving it in and out of the Flash ROM) and send that to the link port in the appropriate format. best bet is to just store it as a WAV file, unless you have any better ideas.

Well, moving data in and out of flash is probably not a very good idea since it has limited writes. Streaming data on the fly probably won't work either due to speed limitations and narrow memory bandwidth. I don't know for sure if its practical to have conpressed sound on a calc since it probably won't give all that much more storage room. READING from flash is just as fast as reading from RAM.

Alright, now apparantly this isn't always the case. There are some ports which can affect how long it takes to read from RAM and flash... Why? We don't know. Go look it up on WikiTI.

I've always liked Revsoft, personally, they're very humble, but produce as a whole very nice games that truly are a credit to the platform and language.
