GameBoy Emulator for 68K Calculators | Andy |
As reported on ti-news.net, GB68K allows you to emulate a GameBoy (original) in your calculator. You need to provide the ROMs yourself, but once you convert them to calculator variables and send them, it's easy to play. In informal testing, 2 of the 3 ROMs I tested are playable (Zelda looked flawless, Golf had some minor display problems. Super RC Pro-Am hung on a splashscreen, but didn't lock the emulator).
While this may seem exciting, it is not perfect. It runs slow, uses a lot of memory (ROMs are typically huge), doesn't support sound or linking, and requires vertical screen scrolling. I'm also sure it kills batteries. On positive notes, it supports savegame memory and will even compress savegame files to conserve your (otherwise strapped) memory.
Granted, the image on the right is taking this concept one step further (I did that in my high school Graphic Design class) but we're getting closer. :) The image below is what The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening looks like on a 92+ in VTI.
GB68K runs on all 68K calculators, but is only practical on the V200 and 89T because of thier increased archive memory.
