[Updated on 11:30pm 03-18-2003] [SC Project Stage One - Basic Dev] [Project leaders Barrett (barrett@calcgames.org) and Konstantin (zkostik@calcgames.org)] Welcome to our new SC organization list. This will help us to coordinate this project better and achieve better results. Below you'll find all needed info for you to start helping out. Conversion info: Anyone who'll work on graphics conversions MUST stick to the guidelines below. We've got to maintain a certain level of consistency in order to achieve a similarily looking conversions. 1) Basic info. a) Unit animations have eight (8) directions. So, all other directions you see in original SC animations can be cut out. Also, some frames need to be mirrored to get a full 360 degree rotation animation. b) Supported animation sizes for units are combinations of 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64. We're trying to go for a 50% scaledown in ALL units. We however wish to not have any units larger than 32x32. If animation doesn't exaclty fit the image space with above size fully, then just center the animation in the smallest image size that it fits. c) Buildings have same size combinations as units. Which are combinations of 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64. We're also looking for a 50% scaledown. Buildings however can be larger than 32x32. Of course image sizes will vary depending on building's dimensions. We try to achieve a good scaledown with reasonable amount of detail but yet not too large to make the game not playable. d) DO NOT DEPEND just on your graphics program's conversion. Its very likely you'll need to do a good deal of hand retouching. e) Lastly, all images are 4 color grayscale. Please stick to the following RGB values in your color palette when you're done scaling/converting: (R:G:B) White (255:255:255), Black (0:0:0), Light Gray (192:192:192), Dark Gray (64:64:64). All images need to be saved in bitmap (BMP) format. Gif/Jpg and others are not acceptable. It of course okay to post a preview of your work in Gif foramt on the forum. We'll take care of converting bitmaps to the calculator format. Here's how we're going to start: 1) Basic GUI and some terrain stuff is done first. a) Terrain includes one type of minerals and one variation of vespene geyser. b) This also includes main cursor, battle cursor, move cursor and no-way cursor. Others are not needed for now. c) No reserach icons are needed right now. Though if you do buildings its optional to do those as well. 2) Then follow basic units. That includes SCV, Marine and Wraith. Basically, one type of each unit. One ground, one flying and one required. a) Only basic animations. That includes walking, shooting and dying. Any animations for later abilities are excluder for now. b) Unit icons are excluded for now. But can be done too at an option. c) See bottom of this document for more precise unit size/fames requirements. 3) Then we need building. Only basic buildings of course including those needed for our basic units. That's Command Center, Supply Depot, Barracks, Refinery and Starport. a) Buildings need a building frame, regular frame and working frame. Only one variation for building frame is neede for now. b) See bottom of this document for more precise building size/fames requirements. 4) Other stuff. Other miscellaneous stuff can also be done. This includes fire animation, bullets, bullet hits and small explisions. Those aren't really necessary at this point of time. Any menus will be really basic for now, but nice calc-oriented designs are welcome. a) Cursors don't have to be animated but would sure add to the game. If you think animation is a must, only make a reasonable number of frames not exceeding eight (8). Now, a list of work slots is as follows. Please post a reply with slot you wish to work on and later on another copy with your status updates. Feel free to reorganize your status update, just keep it easy to read and well presentable. Other notes and info are welcome (and suggested). This is more of a basic list of needed info in status updates. There's no deadlines, but if you feel that you don't have time, post any work you've completed and let others know in case someone decides to take over your part. Don't hesitate to report that, we understand that you have a life of your own and probably have things to do. You may also email zkostik@calcgames.org or barret@calcgames.org for any other questions. Though its preferred that you use forums instead. Thanks to everyone for participations. Its very appreciated. Everyone's work will be credited properly. Scaling/Animation Requirements and Guidelines: Here are all of the units along with how many frames for each action there should be. They will of course be animated, so look at yours in an animated gif to be sure it looks good. 1x means 8 pics, 1 in each direction. In addition to all of these, we also need 4 or 5 frames of each unit blowing up or dying. Make a reasonable number of frames, just enough to make animation not appear too choppy. For larger units it may be needed to have more animation frames than for smaller units. Maximum number of frames is eight (8) but please try to not exceed preferable number of 4 or 5 frames at most cases. Also keep in mind that animations look smoother on a real calc since its screen is a bit blurry. marine=16x16 and 64 pics 4x Walking 1x Standing 2x Shooting scv=16x16 and 16 pics 1x Gliding/Standing 1x Working/Fighting wraith=32x32 and 8 pics (will move up and down to make it look more realistic) 1x Sitting there Buildings: command center=48x48 and 4 pics (1 with lights, 1 without lights, and 2 under construction pics... preferably one with just foundation, and another about half way done) supply depot=32x24 and 3 pics (1 normal, 2 under construction) refinery=32x24 and 2 pics plus some gas ventelating somehow... (1 normal, 1 under construction) barracks=32x32 and 4 pics (1 with lights, 1 without lights, 2 under construction) starport=48x48 and 4 pics (1 with lights, 1 without lights, 2 under construction)
