Hey I was just wondering if anyone knew if there is a way to set iTunes to download songs in mp3 format rather than AAC. I know you can change that for importing music from a cd but I don't see anything for downloads. Thanks

I'll take that as a no? Well while I'm on the topic of Apple I will ask another question I have had. So I am thinking of getting a Macbook and I was wondering about boot camp, I know it works to boot with windows but can it be used for a linux operating system too. I would probably use Ubuntu. I haven't found any thing that says you can, but nothing says you can't either.

So you want to put Linux on a mac, and what is boot camp?
Assuming that it is a tool to select the OS at boot, then Linux comes and installs that for you. During the installation process you will set it up.

Be warned. If you are going to have windows and Linux on the same machine. It is a lot easier to install windows first. If you don't you will have a world of trouble getting the grub boot loader working again.

And as far as I know there is not a version of Linux that can run on the mac book. If it can not run Windows then it can not run Linux. (I may be wrong on this one. If any one knows of a version of Linux that can run on a wrist base processor then let me know)

Random fact: Mac OS X is based off Unix

Hey thanks Zach, I'm kind of new to using linux, I will keep that in mind when I install. What Boot Camp is does is allows you to boot either windows or Mac OS on the new intel based macs.

Ok, I forgot that Apple put in a second processor for 32-bit operating systems.

In that case then yes it should work. You might have trouble with Linux's boot loader. It is going to try and install it in the MBR. I'm not exactly sure how mac sets up there MBR.

As well as that you probably will have a lot of trouble finding the drivers that you need. Go find a HCL for the mac book for Ubuntu. That way you may save yourself a lot of trouble and time.

<edit>
Found this. It will help.

Good luck

I don't get why you don't mind converting the files once they're on your compy. If you have a Mac, know that Switch has made my life better for the 6 months that I've used it.

I don't mind, I was just wondering if there was a setting or if that's the only format iTunes would let you download. Sorry if I came off as a jerk i didn't mean to sound mean or anything. Yeah I have used switch too, and I like it.

So I found a page with what looks like the hardware compatibility. I think that boot camp puts something in the system preferences that helps with the MBR.

Don't use itunes.
Try amazon's mp3 download service instead.
Better quality and cheaper... what?
Not to mention you don't support Apple.

Byeh, I quit using iTunes forever ago. I use a teeny-tiny free program called PoddoX to write songs onto 'Ol Faithful.

For downloading, I would just use Amazon. It's better.

@haveacalcs first post

There is actually no free software to convert the format that iTunes downloads in. It is a heavily protected file that few audio softwares can convert and there are none free (I looked for a loooong time and couldn't find anything).

If your looking for a free way to convert, there basically is none. You can burn the songs to a disc, then rip them back into your library and they will be in a different format (.m4p or something) and then you can use your casual free audio converter to convert that to mp3.

To answer the very first question, there is no setting to do that. You know you probably would get a much better answer if you contacted iTunes yourself. I sent a ticket once about something small and got a response in less then 2 days.

@allynfolksjr

How is it cheaper? Their both .99 cent... Also I don't believe there is any quality difference, iTunes is perfect quality.

However I'm for the anti-support of Apple =D

O but there is. You just have to know where to look.

My bad...

There is no legally free software that can convert that...
