what is the best calc I can buy if I want decent graphics, good programming capabilities, a good selection of games, etc.?

I already have a TI-84+SE and I don't really want a similar calc (IE: 83+)

no flames on calcs, just opinions. no flames on opinions either....

TI-89 Titanium, no question (although some may argue Voyage 200 for the QWERTY layout). Before you go out and buy it, though, keep in mind that the TI-Nspire will be coming out shortly. It has built-in grayscale, can process things 6 times faster than the Titanium, has monstrous storage space, and has a TI-84+ mode to switch to.

Also, I don't think the Titanium's allowed on the SAT, but you could probably get by with using it during school, even though just having it could be considered cheating. Do you want to be happy now... or later?

A laptop.
Failing that, the first hit on google for "Ti-nspire" was http://www.ti-nspire.com/

Yeah, that's the one. They say that they'll start selling it in their online store at the beginning of the school year, giving teachers a head start to find out all about it. They'll start selling it in actual stores over winter break, I think.

How does the n-spire compare to other calculators? Is it like the TI-89 or is it less advanced then that? I know it has the TI-84 mode on it, but what is the N-spire mode closest to?

If you'd bothered to read haveacalc's post or Nikky's link, you'd see that the N-Spire is much more powerful than any of TI's previous calculators.

I sorry I should have been more clear. I meant to ask if it was going to have a similar user interface to any of these calculators. I could not find this while I was at the N-spire website.

The screen layout for the Nspire will very loosely resemble that used on 68ks. There are menus, graphs, tables, dialogs, and typing spaces, all of which can fit on a single screen. The rationing of screen space looks like it changes constantly, though.

Again, you can find almost all the information that anyone knows so far on the Nspire's website. When you're trying to find things out about it, you shouldn't bother to read much of the garbage that TI has out for you. It's generalizing and has little to do with the exact functions of the Nspire, let alone the programming that's gone into it. You'll learn much more by watching the video demonstrations, since you can see for yourself what's going on.

Heh, I guess that rule's gone, even though I remember it being in place some years back. I just used my 89 on the SAT today.

You're an idiot. Haven't you ever heard of Iceberg, HW3Patch, or Ghostbuster? The Titanium is much better than the 89. Actually, I don't even think TI makes regular 89s anymore.

Yep, I've never found a game made for the 89 that the 89t can't run with minimal effort.
