not in the sense you are talking about. I agree it is a pain, but unless someone with mad asm skillz wants to make an app to hook a menu of some sort in to the TI-OS and give us access to all them little characters, I don't know of an easier way to get at them.

Well, I created a seperate file for those NPCs that aren't people or signs. This will help keep the size of the main engine down significantly, though will not see any speed difference.

get a program called SYMBOL if memory serves correctly and it creates a temp string with all the "symbols" and you can choose the one you want to use and i think it saves it to the ANS var for you to Recall into ur program

Just for fun you should make the computer boot up Linux.

Heh, no thanks. :P

Not sure how I am gonna design things yet. I might implement my scrolling menu stuff into the items system, just have to figure out how I want to do it. In the mean time, working on adding the other little things for the misc npcs.

Well, it has been decided, is the town map I am going with. That should take next to no time to implement, though I am probably going to have to put it in a seperate program as well... >.< That way, I can set up the cursor to flash in the correct spots based on where the character is at on the maps. So much fun. :)

Thanks, map courtesy of Leofox, from UTI and Omnimaga.

I managed to get the map integrated in, only viewable through Gary's house rigt now, with a blinking cursor. Once you are able to get a copy of the map from Gary's sister, I already have the current maps set up to blink when viewed. I fixed the saving problem where it would not rearchive the save program, and I made it so it would actually quit the game.

Update: This game currently sits at 73,978 bytes, roughly 9% complete.

Well, I still have some complex stuff to do, but I figured I could go ahead and wipe out some of the smaller stuff there, without really hindering me. It would need to be done sooner or later. :)

i havnt done anything uber complex like this.
too little of an attention span and too much constraints from the calculator.
plus they dont like me o.O perfect coding tried and true has failed me on occasion.

Last night fixed a problem with being able to press 2nd where there is nothing, and it displayed the last NPC discussion. Simple inString( fixed that. :P

Also, minus the sign, NPCs through Route 1 (The road between Viridian and Pallet) are entered in. I have to edit the map of Viridian and add in the NPCs there. Forgot to put them in when I added the map. :P

Well, I have been hung up on a snag the past few days. I am having trouble integrating the yes/no menu box into the text dialogue program. This menu is going to be pretty darned important, so I have to come up with something that will work. I am hoping for a solution to come to me in the next couple days, so I might still get a beta out by this weekend. Not looking that good though... :/

well, some NPCs give you a choice. You have to select Yes or No to proceed.

And what is not working about it is the fact that the Text Display program is not going to the program like it should when it sees that character. I still have a couple more things to try, so I will see what crops up from that...

oh i see.
what i do for stuff like that is i have a getkey and since theres only two spots, i say if its up or down, it switches sides. or multiplies itself by a negative. i have a point in between, and then i add the number to that point, and it creates the selector above and below that point.
if its negative, goto choice A, if positive choice B
but i see where youre getting at.
i got lucky with coding infection, because with xlib and its XTEMP000 programs, i have program variables.
is that what you have with your execute archived programs lib?

It creates prgmTEMP#, which allows me to easily have a basic program call another with no problem. :D

As to the yes/no menu box... I already have the yes/no menu part programmed in. It is the text displayer that is not accessing that menu program. Well, it is now, partially.

If you let it just display the text normally, it brings up the menu jut fine. Right now, I have to figure out how to get the line by line display routine to recognize it. Once that is done, I can finish off the npcs, and events :D Then on to interior maps :)

Ooh. So basically you've combined the two best shows in the genres' mythos into one. Wow that's extreme. If Gene was still here then he would go insane just from the thought. You are extreme. I can see why you'd combine them though. Star Trek is more about the Technical Specs of the Sci-Finess where as Star Gate deals more with mythos. Wow when you get it done; get a (C) Copyright, get it published. I will buy. Wow it sounds xtreme.

P.S.
Off topic, but it seems as if authors are just popping up this year alot more than ever. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

im an author. i would say mediocre, but everyone who reads my written words falls in love with them immediately. but i wouldn't say best seller status.
yet.
i get it because my father's a writer. i've read his star trek writings and robert jordan and neal stephenson.
so i know how to write. well, some would say. and only some because only a few people have read what i wrote. if you wanna see what i've written ill post a link.

he doesn't have the time to be published and being published these days is a major birch so once he's retired from the military, that will probably be his job of choice.

how long? I don't honestly know. Games such as this take a while to deal with. I am hoping for a decent, real demo by Christmas.

And yes, People have flaunted to me that this needs more graphics, but, since I don't know asm, it will have to be like this. :)

Glad you like what you see, and stick around! You never know when I might just randomly throw up a beta fr people to play.
