Heres a site idea: Don't let authors review their own files or have the site to be able to have more than review on the same file.

Hey, thanks for the ideas. Here's what I've got to say about them:
So far, filed don't associate with user accounts since people are not forced to sign up for an account in order to upload files. When we get our new uploader (if I ever get time to finish it...), we'll have files associated with user accounts and people will need to login to submit stuff.
Multiple reviews is probably more real, we've been thinking about that and didn't really get to any conclusion since only few reviews are written (only 37 so far). However if I hear couple other people asking for this feature, I'll code it in. I was planning to have multiple reviews like this: First review is seen on the file page and to see all remaining reviews, one would click a link saying "see all reviews". How does that sound btw?

Anyway, thanks a lot for your suggestions, I'll try to find some time to work on those.

About the "see more reviews" button, maybe show the average of each review catorgory and then click to see comments?

What exactly do you mean by "average of each review"? You mean like average score similar to rating but only counter from all reviews?

Like on the review scoring system. So it would look something like this:

Graphic/Interface: 7/10 (4 votes)
Replay Value: 4/10 (4 votes)
bla bla bla
Overall value: 8/10

Button: "See reviews (4 available)"

So it takes the average of each review catorgory.

Oh okay, that sounds good. I'm going to have a few days off later this week so I'll probably work on that. This shouldn't be too hard and take much time. I've been wanting to implement this feature for some time already but recent lack or reviews and lack of interest kept me from making it. I however appreciate your input and will gladly try to work this feature out.

Hey people, I'd just like to mention that I didn't forget about multiple reviews and am in fact working on that feat locally on my home comp. I don't have much free time to work on it, but it did get some stuff done and it's comind along nicely. Hopefully I'll get it done soon. Anyway, you'll definitely notice when it's done as it'll be added to the side and you'll see a "See all reviews" link as well as overall review scores. So hang on!

interestingly enough, i've found an rather cool thing. my script actually makes a pretty nice list of all reviews it finds inside the db for a requested file. so, no extra coding is really needed :).
though, it'd list all reviews. what i'm going to do, is to allow three (3) reviews to reside on the game page and the rest be accessed thru a small link on the bottom of the page.
how does that sound to you guys? any suggestions or questions coz its a good time to ask those since i'm working on the review stuff again!

Edit: umm...okay, did anybody notice anything? if not, then start looking and taking advantage of it! if you still can't figure out what i'm talking about, wait till tomorrow and i'll tell you what's going on. i certainly hope you guys do notice this important update.

oh yes, please report any problems/bugs ASAP. thanks.

darn, stupid me, worked on old files.cgi which doesn't have Barrett's "file popularity ratings". hey B, when you get a change add this, or i'll add it myself later on.

Edit: okay, nm that. i fixed everyhitng. looks like everyhting is back as it used to be, well and of course my new feat added.

The new feature is multiple review support. Duh, this is what this topic's been all about. You can now review any file even if someone already reviewed it. Three latest reviews are shown on the file page by default and the rest are shown thru a "See All Reviews" button, which only appears when there are more than 3 reviews. Also, overall review ratings only appear when file has more than one review.
Please let me know if everything works well or if there are still some problems or bugs. Thanks. (I certinaly hope everyone would take advantage of this feat and write some reviews!)

To Digital: it wasn't a conversation but rather a status update...

To Allyn: hmm...it works fine for me. give me the ID of the file you're trying to review and exactly what happens. also, are you logged in?

Edit: okay, i think i see the problem. sry 'bout that. i'll try to fix it ASAP.

Edit: fixed. i left out one old line of code which should have been edited. its fixed now. i tried to do the same thing that allyn described and it doesn't happen anymore. please let me know how it works now. thanks.

Okay, I'm starting to get tired of empty reviews. This week I'll work to fix this issues. This will not allow posting of reviews with empty comments. I understand that sometimes people don't want to fill all comments out, so only two will be required. I'll also make the review field required. This should improve overall review quality.
As far as not letting authors review their own files, this isn't such a simple fix and will have to wait.
I'll post later when I get this done, I'll also need my internet to be back in order for me to take care of this.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome.
