Another thing I discovered while browsing through profiles this evening is that there are different "levels" on calcgames.org . I get the Administrator title, but what's the difference between user and moderator? Are there any other levels?

I believe mods can edit post, delete posts/topics, open/close topics. They pretty much have full power over any particular subject (such as site, where we are now). Admins can do cross-subject stuff, like move threads, and messing with forum order and colors/banners.

Out of forums, mods have no power, but admins can post news, and sometimes other stuff.

users can edit their post as long as it is the most recent post. They can also read/post to forums. User is just anybody that's registered.
