today, i realized that i strongly prefer calcgames.org to ticalc.org. with the forums, strong community, and smaller size, i personally believe that this site is the best calc site out there. does anyone else out there feel the same way?

calcgames site design is better, the archives are easier to judge files before downloading

ticalc has better news

well, both sites have their goods and bads. obviously, no other site on the whole web can beat ticalc by the archive size. so if you need something no other site has, you'd go to ticalc and would probably find it. however, smaller sites usually have tighter communities and mostly survive on that. calcgames is kinda in the middle of both. i only liked ticalc forums when they were much smaller (4+ years ago). now the forums are so huge that it's next to impossible to carry any kind of discussion there. i do however go there when i need some science progs and such. for 68k games ti-gen and a few other french sites are the best since they often have some progs which even ticalc doesn't have.

ticalc doesn't really have forums. They just have 400 posts per news article, which most of are ridiculous, fortunately they corrected that "first post" phenomenon.

ticalc is definately great for its huge archives.

well, that's what i kinda meant. you can't really have any sort of discussion there and any n00b question often gets flamed there. they can't really do anything about the 400 posts first day since so many people come there and yes, many do post bs. they still filter the comments fairly well but huge numbers of them make the threads really hard to read and navigate (to see replies to your posts).

i remember one thing i saw on their forums was about 10 guys saying, "let's see how many times we can reply to this comment!" and it went on for several pages. with crap like that, its no wonder why their forums are so hard to get through.

CalcGames is better in that it has more organized archives that have decent reviews (not that ticalc has a lot of reviews). Ticalc has a giant archive that's nice, although most of the programs are repeats (such as a billion different "systems of equations solver" programs, half of which are either crap or just don't give the right answer). Most of the files here are better quality, and the ones at ticalc have yet to *really* sort through and get rid of possibly 20-30% of the archive.
CalcGames actually has forums with a decent setup. Ticalc just has one of those string posts where the replies stagger around the screen so it's hard to read and follow it.

well, ticalc actually has better ogranized archive than us. well, at least if you have lots of files. here users decide what kind of program they want and then choose their calc model and get files. its kinda opposite on ticalc. when this site started we never even thought of actually running a download site so a lot of work was focused on calc newbies and easy navigation (which it seems we were able to achieve). most people who come here don't know what assembly and shells are so its easier for their to first find the file and then look for a shell it requires. i guess it depends from person to person though.
speaking of files quality, its rather hard to judge since we have many crappy files too but that's inevitable on a site where anyone could upload to. it's true that CG may have better files info for each particular file but there are other things that ticalc has and we don't. we don't try to become ticalc and want to be our own separate community (like we are now).
thanks for the nice comments btw Shock, i really liked reading them.

I like here better, unless i want to browse through millions of 83+ games, then i go to ticalc.
