Edit
every once in a while i just go to random places on this site and look at random stuff out of boredom. I happened to spot the Admin link under the Site menu at the top and I decided to see what it was. It says I have no options for my account. What is it supposed to do? I'm not trying to access forbidden areas or anything, but I would like to know what it is you do there.

It's where they practice 'Forum Tyranny'
:-)

it's actually where we manage news/reviews and some site upload stuff.

"Forum tyranny" is in a menu off of the forum page or in the threads :).

This is so that we don't have to type url's when we need to get to our administrative tools. Since there aren't any 'special' things for regular users there, you get no options. Though, once we finish the new uploader it'll be there since it requires login. Besides, forbidden areas wouldn't have a link going to them directly :). All sites have admin stuff and access to it so there isn't anything new nor "forum tyranny" related here. If we don't moderate the forum it'll be a rather unpleasant place. And CalcFreak has violated our terms three times by cursing on the forum and we pardones it two times warning him but he didn't care. What good are warnings and pardons is we take not action? While we are not tyrants we'll do necessary actions to keep this site friendly and clean of unwanted stuff (yes, and people). What we want from all of our visitors is respect to others and understanding of our actions. Please don't start anyhting regarding forum tyranny again, unless you just want to make fun of it and laugh. :)

I think it's hilarious. Funniest thing I've seen in years. You guys should put up a news article about it.

wow. those people really have no life. If someone says something mean to me, i just let it roll by. I don't think there's too much tyranny here... or maybe I'm just stupid.

I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm just stupid.

those to whom you're referring as people were CalcFreak and zootch. CalcFreak was complaining about us deleting his comments when he was using profanity. we warn him, he does it agains. third time after about three months of me/Barrett telling him to stop and listening to him that we won't do anything and won't ban him, we banned him. our froums have moderators and are to be kept clean and absolutely anyone who posts inappropriate stuff must be notified and warned. even if me or other admins slip, we should be told so because in our opinion there's no need for profanity or cursing when someone needs to explain something (unless ofcourse they have a very small vocabulary, but it's still no excuse).

Thats funny. On the site he says you and B never had a chance to see what was going on before he got banned. You just proved him wrong, again. I wish people like him would learn.

Spiral banned him but gosh, this was going on for many months. We've been telling CF to stop cursing, explained why, told him we'll band him if he keeps doing that...and he kept doing what he wanted. Yeah, he did keep forums active but we don't need the kind of activity he thought was good. For some reason CF thought we needed him on the forum regardless of what he was posting just because of all the "activity" he was giving to this forum. To be quite honest, CF was getting pissed and started cursing everytime someone said he was wrong. As much as I wanted to make him understand we will not tolerate his bad behavior on our forum, he kept on going so he got what he deserved. I don't know if spiral said something bad to him or not, that's a private matter and should have been discussed over email and not our public forums *especially* in a way CF had to discuss it. I'm kinda sorry for him, but there's nothing we can do if he wouldn't want to abide by our forum policies...

Well, he's keeping himself plenty amused with all of the tripod sites and forums he's been making. Now is he banned from posting, or banned from accesing the site altogether?

one of the admins should "register" on that site allyn found and foil their plans. That would be hilarious. People who revolt against calculator forums truly need to think very carefully about what they are doing. Personally, I think you guys are great- you can keep most of this site well under control.

BTW, is there any webhost that offers free FTP?

I tried to register, but it's suspected there is no way to 'log on'. No reply yet....

What do you mean free FTP, as in, a wehosting package that offers free FTP? Because thats every package....for obvious reason.

Or do you mean free hosting??

Btw, it's kinda gay that "forum tyranny" comes out fifth on google search...
As with FTP, every webhost offers it. If you're referring to ftp server, then it probably won't be in a free package. Besides, its quite easy to write a script to display files in certain folders and that kind of stuff if that's what you're looking for. You can also find decent hosting packages for as low or $5-7/month. If you have broadband internet you can also just run your own server.

Gee, what a darn shame. That was my current humor site. Now where will I turn to for online amusment? (The previous sentences were scarcasm, by the way :-) )

Ohh, did that site not comply with Lycos Terms and Conditions? Henh, if CF know about this, he'd have a major fit.

Nope, it violated their TOS twice. Even though its funny, I don't like that site because it tells lies to its visitors and blames our admins for being tyrants while not saying anything as to why CF was banned. The site was gone in about 3-4 hours after my email went thru. No more anti forum tyranny bs... I only did that because the site went high in ranks of search engines, otherwise I could care less if it was there or not. You can PM me if you want to know the details.

"Spiral banned him but gosh"
- I didn't do the ban command, I think it might have been D.

nice that you brought down his site. Extending 'Forum Tyranny' beyond the borders of the website!! Yeah!

if you ever do get an FTP server, FTP Surfer is a pretty decent freeware manager for it, I use it for ftp transactions.

Well, regadless of the person who banned him, their website did not mention why they were banned. This is just hilarious, accordung to them they just got banned w/t knowing why and not doing anything. Okay everyone, let's just forget about this whole business and continue with our regular stuff. Bad buys, so to speak, are gone now. Searches should hopefully update soon and remove the link or uhm...do I have to write there too? :) lol

Google crawls their indexed pages about every other day. So it should be gone from the search engines relatively soon.

On a site related-subject: Do the reviews now have to be approved by the admins before they're posted? It seems like it took overnight for the one I did recentally to be posted, just wondering.

Even though Google crawls sites quite often, it only updated cached stuff every so often (a month or so i think). I guess it may be due to the huge size of the data it needs to update...

As with reviews, they're still approved by admins. You were just lucky I happened to be looking at the review approval page at that time so they got added quickly. But either way, Barrett made a nice web based review approval tool so everything is a little nicer these days.
