I would have some suggestions for the new file upload form we currently have right now.

-First the file screenshot upload limit should be increaded to 512 KB per screenshots at least, because calcapture doesnt optimise animated screenshots very well (I always end with 300-700 KB file size)
-Also it would be cool if for example we get an error when uploading a file that when we press the back link we dont have to rewrite everything once again because this is very annoying. I think that they should be saved in cookies or something so that when an error occur we dont have to restart filling all the information about the file from scratch
-The file ID thing is very annoying because if we want to update a file we always have to open a new browser window and go see the file ID everytime. There should be an automated system so that if the file alerady exist you are allowed to rename it or if you are the author of the old file it ask you if it's an update, much like at ticalc.org . :)

Yeah, don't limit the picture size...well I don't think you should, and make it so it updates right away.

As for the back link... Just use your browser's back button. I'll see about changing that link into a javascript:history.go(-1); link... As for the other things, I wouldn't be authorized (nor know how) to just do that... I'm still slowly learning the backend scripts (which isn't really my job anyway, but it's a good learning experience).

Actually, screen size has already been bumped up to 512 (if i remember right max is now 1024 or so for screens and 4megs for file), only the uploader html doesn't reflect the change.
As with field info, you can just enable a setting in your browser to remember form info (it work at least in IE). Eventually we'll use cookies for that purpose.
As with the file policies, files are not tied to a user. Thar's mainly to not deal with wring user tied to a file and all that as seen on ticalc. We also accept files from non-registered users, this is to make it easier for everyone to submit a file. I'm not sure if its a good idea or not but we can certainly hold a poll and possibly rethink that. I suppose we could also just add a link next to a file or when you view your files list to take you directly to upload page and not need to key in the ID.
Thanks for your suggestions nevertheless, we'll see what we cam do when we have some spare time.

EDIT: Btw Andy, *looks at Andy's profile* you're an admin so you do have (or at least should) have access to scripts and other crap so if you can please feel free to help out the site. While nothing is require here, any worthy improvements are generally a job of any admin who has the ability to implement new stuff or improve current scripts. If you need help or have questions about certain things, always feel free to let me know and I'll try my best to help you out.

Yeah, Nikky gave my FTP access to cgi-bin a couple weeks ago. I already made a little edit to the to-do list so you can view items you marked as to-done. :) It's been a long time since I've done much in perl, so I'm re-learning it... At the moment, I can't really do much since this computer I'm using while my laptop is getting fixed really sucks. I'll jump in to doing more of that stuff later, when I get it back, and when I feel more comfortable messing with the major scripts (and I always make backups).

there are serious problems that would come with the automatic updates and our current system... each time a file is uploaded it gets put in a newly created folder (unless things have changed)... we don't have an organized system like ticalc.org does... and we want to give people the freedom to have their zips named whatever they want. The only way that could be fixed would be to give each zip file a number.zip, then when people download it, it uses some sort of script so people download files as name.zip (would require a lot of changes... then again, it looks as though you have hired some very skilled people)...

I think it's a small inconvenience for the users to look up the number, but then again, think of all the confusion it gets rid of (files with the same name in the same directory etc...).

anyway... my 2 pesos...

Look at the Barrett topic in the Non-calculator related world forum XX, he said he just got done with missionary training. To address Kevin's last point, though, it seems a bit ludicris to me that you can't click a few links to find the FileID of the updated file. It seriously takes 2 button presses (3 for fireefox users) to get to your author stats, and then you mouseover the program link and check the ID in the status bar. IT'S NOT THAT HARD! I do think though that you should be able to change the name/short name when you re-upload.
