lately ive been getting threats at best about what i talk about
the most recent one was about the fact that i MENTIONED my religion
Moderators should be more limited in wat they can do and wat they can filter.
Im trying to hav a decent convorsation with a frend of mine about religion and sorts
and here comes [a mod-i blocked his name for all intensive puporpeses] saying that we shouldnt a holy war and that he was close to deleting the topic.
i just wanted to pop him in the mouth
maybe mods should only be able to mod site forums and not the user ones
and if the user ones are horrible enought than they can bring it to the attention of admins
just a suggestion becuase i do not like the idea that just about anyone can "fix" (or totally obliterate) any decent convo as they see fit.

i admit now that the topic name is a little extreme as not all are like that
but I was REALLY ticked off at the moment
please forgive

ok what i am about to say is just my oppinion. The last thing I want or that CG needs is another swearing topic. If I offend anyony I am srry. And please forgive me

Religion is a very sensitive subject to alot of people. I did read the post that you are reffering to and I agree with him. All that was beiging said was "Warnning: This topic has the potential to become out of hand. And if so will be dealt with as seen neccesary" Thats all he was saying. Maybe a PM would have been a better way of saying that but he didn't think so or he would of done that. Listen all that I am trying to say is that people are really sensitive about what or who they belive in. Some people can snap when they feel like they are beiging attacked I know I do. That is one bad thing about text you can not hear how the person is saying what they are saying so you don't know if it is sarcastic or what. I belive that the Mods are doing agreat job at there job. The only thing that they could do better is put a spell check thing before you post. O wait thats would be something for the admins never mind. Still a good idea.

So to put everthing in a peanut sized shell. The mods are just doing there job. Nothing more and nothing less.

I have said all this in a calm tone. I'm not mad or upset. All I am doing is expressing my oppinion. If i offend any one I am sorry and please do not take it personally.

ehh thats ok
mine was just a suggestion
i just dont like getting attacked cus someone doesnt believe in what i do
i say "if you wanna say something bad shut your mouth and look away"
thats all Jc woulda done
sides i said in the post
"if you hav soemthing negative to say i will delete it"
i took precautions not to turn it into a "holy war" as he said
so basically his post was nothing but a firm grip and a reminder of what his power was
and i dont think that was right

The site is privately owned. They can filter out whatever they want. Do not complain.

I have never had any issues with mods, except with my DOOM avvy where they player was shot and died. But that was a bit too inapproperate for the forums.

>> for all intensive puporpeses

It's "intents and purposes".

Also, since Nikky is on vacation this week and I haven't seen heads nor tails of Z lately, I suppose I am in charge for the time being. I don't like making decisions without conferring but in this case I have no choice.

Religious debates ARE allowed so long as they are civil, and do not degrade to shouting matches. You will also use proper grammar and (especially) capitalization and punctuation in such debates. I *will* moderate them and if I can't easily read your post it will be deleted. Any mudslinging and the post will be summarily deleted.

Hydralisk, you went too far in editing Jc's post. I did not see what he posted, but seeing what you put in its stead is too much. Do it again and I will personally see to it that you lose moderation powers on your own subforum.

Edit by L: Speaking of misspellings, subforum has 2 u's Andy :).

I use my powers only for good, I swear. Like correcting the oh-so-numerous grammar and spelling errors on the site. I usually like to leave notes (see Andy's post for an example) about what I did so that y'all don't get freaked out. If you have any problems with that, kindly go discuss them with the closest brick wall as I will hear none of it.

*Waves hand* These aren't the droids you're looking for... :D

Ok, since you gave me permission.

Spelling. What is that again?

Hey L, I try to spell correctly, it's just, well, I don't. and I probably never will. That is why spellcheck was invented. But It's funny because even with spellcheck I misspell words.

Anyway, feel free to correct all of my wonderful spelling and grammar mistakes that I am completely oblivious to.

the only thing i thought was rude about the religion thread was that Jc warned us b4 we even got into a conversation. i find that as rude as when i walk up to my friends, and b4 i say anything, they say "hey dude, dont talk about God rite now" ... um, i havent said anything yet...
dont you think that can get annoying?
i just think you should treat religion topics just like... say... a musik topic... or a trumpet debate. none of those got a warning b4 they started. Just the religion topic.
Do u see where im goin with this? just be fare with all kinds of topics. Yes... it is a privatly owned site, and technically the mods could do what ever they want. So they are doing there job rite. but there is a difference betwix fare and rite.

Edit by L: Not even gonna try to fix the spelling, but the biting remarks i will edit out. And, fyi, the reason Jc warned you before the topic even started is becuase we've had problems with that in the past.

I really don't care how you spell or use grammar as long as I know what you're trying to say. However, if I find myself with the time and the compulsion, I will correct your spelling and leave you a note.

Did I say anything about spelling in that post? No. Spelling errors don't bother me as much because I don't notice them most of the time and most of them are due to inadvertant typos anyway. Also, I forget where I saw this, but most people can read stuff just as fast if all the letters are there and the only letters which are in the right posistion are the first and last. What does get to me is when I can't make heads nor tails of a sentence (or worse, a paragraph) because it is incoherent and lacks structure!

This entire situation is starting to get out of hand.

L, yes, and I don't mind you making those edits and leaving notes. In fact, that is very good.

I do belive, that if you actually go into out forum archives, more that 80% of topics are generally without issue or conflict. It is only with the flood of people that are new to the community, and that are underage that we get conflict. And I belive it is the fault certan topics for having the ones that normally would leave, stay around longer.

Please send any detailed complaints against moderators and/or staff to admins@calcgames.org, and be sure to include any pertinent information. I haven't researched this specific problem (nor will I likely find the time to do so), but I do believe that our staff are carefully chosen and would not abuse their privileges willfully.

I'm closing this topic -- if you have anything to say (including filing an official complaint if you wish), please use the email address referenced above or use nikky[at]u.washington.edu if you want a faster reply.

Note to admins: I will forward any messages I receive on my personal address to you once I receive them.

Thanks for your time.

Edit
I unlocked this topic just to defend myself. That's all... don't get angry at me. I have that right.

I'd just like to mention that I did NOT expect the topic to be locked. I simply remembered some old threads on this site that discussed religion and turned into all-out holy wars, and I just wanted to remind everyone to behave. I do understand that it wasn't violent yet... but I have to be careful, before things go too far.

You guys seem to have many problems with me. I apologize, but you have to understand that religion is a very hot issue, and some sort of warning couldn't have been avoided. Think about it... what if I didn't say anything, and someone did start such a war? If that was such the case, one of you could have been banned, and I didn't want that to happen.

I dunno... I just do my job and keep this forum clean and the members sane. That is all.
