Hey all, from the look of some regulars here it seemed that some may have wondered how CG was doing so far this year. So I decided to post our server (CG only) stats for the year. The html page is 120 some kb in size so give it some time if you have a slow connection or computer. You can view it by clicking the link below. Please note that some information was cut out for privacy reasons, that included ip addressed of most frequent users and interal file stats as well as other things but most commonly requested stats are in the edited page I'm posting. Feel free to post comments or questions as usual, of course. :)

Nice... No surprise that September had the greateest amount of bandwidth, and June and July had very little.

That is because i come on at that time :)

and its nice to see windows at 96%. but its bad to see MS explorer so high... probably because alot of kids access this site while they are at school, and unable to use awsome explorers.

But anyways...Z, maybe you can PM me, but who does traverse this site the most?

It's funny, the visiting stats fluctuate in an almost perfect sinusoidal pattern according to the day of the month and the hour of the day. What are the odds of that?

Edit: Wow, basically 99% of the outside references come from TI's own website. That's sweet.

Hey Lieve ist Krieg, but "who does traverse the site the most" you mean which user? If that's the case, not sure since the logs only have ip addressed and our forum doesn't log the requests, since we don't believe into spyware and I really hate it. But I'd assure it would be regulars and admins probably since we often check on things to make sure everything's running properly.

To all: The browsers stats are actually steadily shifting towards Firefox, I'd say a percent or two every month. That's pretty darn quick and the difference is growing fast especially this year. I'd imagine more people became aware of Firefox. Personally, I do use IE the most and only use FF when I browse anime and picture gallery sites. I personally don't see any specific advanted of either and the spyware problem mainly depends on the user and doesn't apply on my side. :)

The IP was checked with IRC logs... and haveacalc was our top visitor!

Second was... "I found 4 matches to your query (sorted): Janck _Janck Biospark Janck|out. Janck (~Goombagoo@c-67-182-138-63.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) was last seen quitting from #calcgames 24 days, 1 hour, 10 minutes ago stating (BRICK!!)."

Z: Firefox is probably the slowest browser when viewing images. Try Opera instead. Check out this graph.

Owned... Opera has all the "records" in Windows. Though Konqueror has some in Linux which is understandable.

Firefox is good. I could care less if Opera owns the records from some comparo, cause my version of FF works perfectly and suits my needs just fine.

FF loads images just fine on my machine. I only use its tabs function for images and galleries so I can browser several at the same time and not have extra windows site in the taskbar.

As with Opera, I don't want this to be take as a flame but I can't stand it. Its compatibility plain sucks, FF is much better on that respect. FF is more lightweight and loads much quicker and I hate how Opera is being picky with various active content, that included current Flash player. Honestly, I'm not sure what you guys like in it so much, but it's your choice and I respect that. The only Opera that I do use it the smartphone version but only because it supports more features, its speed isn't exactly thrilling.

I have no compatibility issues with plugins with Opera on Windows, and it only has issues with Flash on Linux on sites that do streaming .flv video. Normal flash stuff is fine.

Opera uses, on the average, a significant amount LESS memory than Firefox. It may take a second or two longer to load, but meh. It browses much faster in my experience. Comparison: On my 233MHz Powerbook G3 running Linux, Firefox takes ~10 seconds to load the program, and a good number of seconds to render each page during which time the entire program is frozen. It also uses a ridiculously small font by default which is barely readable. Opera, on the other hand, takes 3-4 seconds to load, loads pages in a bit less time, AND doesn't completely lock up while it is rendering. It also uses a sane default font size.

Opera also will hide in your system tray (or equivalent -- it'll take itself out of Expose and the little minimized progams bit in the Dock on OS X, I believe), when you press Control/Command + H.

As for [X]HTML/CSS standards, Opera is by far the most accurate of IE, FF, and itself. IE and FF do not pass the Acid2 test (http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/), and Opera does.

i thought i would start up ie just to get a quick page loaded, and it took it 7 secs *with errors*, so i said forget that and loaded it in .78 secs from FF and with no error. and yes, Opera is the best... thats y no one is using it... makes a lot of sense...

That's because Firefox was advertised like the end of the world was coming, and basically it was designed to appeal to all of the anti-Microsoft people out there by comparing itself to Internet Explorer, and acting like it was going to end it. That gets you Firefox zealots, who will stick with FF and spread it to their friends until their head explodes.

If you notice, there's almost no Opera advertisements. It wasn't spread all over the web, it just WAS. It didn't compare itself to other web browsers, so searching for "OMG I HATE MICROSOFT" or even "NOT INTERNET EXPLORER" won't get you any results for it. Only the serious people wanting serious solutions actually got to it.

thedailywtf.com used to have an Opera ad on every page for several months... It hasn't been there for a couple weeks, though.

Yeah, IE does bug me. I was using it earlier today (although it was 6, I believe, so that could be why) for Windows Live Mail, a Microsoft product, and it didn't work. Irony at it's best.

Funny that whenever somebody mentions a web browser, this whole discussion repeats. :)

Well Andy, I do have to agree on FF sometimes using small font. Not sure why but it may be character set/language related.

Ryan, what did you do to make IE not work? It works fine for me in all cases, only thing that seems to be kinda retarded is IE not linking my router login page. Other than that, no complaints at all. Not sure why everyone's complaining that nothing works in IE.

Browser wars over again...yay!

As far as I know, I didn't do anything to it... I checked again at school, it's IE for Macintosh, so that may be why. I don't have a screenshot, but it only loaded the some of the images, and it seemed to move them around to strange places.

Hooray for bumping topics!

@... whoever cares: This should be a monthly thing... being able to access the site stats that is... perhaps we should create a section in the portal for this?
