Well, since RPG Maker 2000 is throwing a hissy fit right now, I'll pass the time by describing the story behind my new RPG.

Enter Joe. That's me. You play as me, as usual. I'm a writer. I've written several stories and I'm working on a novel (see another topic).

Joe lives in a nice little house with his cat, Chip. (My real cat.) One day, Chip starts talking to him! To make things odder, they both black out and wake up in a strange, out-of-datish world with little technology. It begins to rain on the tiny little peninsula, and they must defeat a few monsters and find shelter. In the nearest house, they meet a mysterious girl named Esther. She seems nice enough, and is also strangely attracted to Joe (who as in real life, can't tell until someone tells him.) Then he freaks out. Esther was a character in a short story he wrote (called "innocent"), and she wasn't exactly too great towards him (shot him out of jealosy). She apologizes, although she knows it isn't the same Joe. The "hero" and his cat take her to school, and they find a hidden passage underneath. The school apparently has a weird secret, and only with Esther and a secret agent (Katie, my friend in real life), as well as special guests (the version of me in the story with a few friends) can they escape. But where do they go?

Joe and his cat black out again, and wind up in another weird prison, this time guarded by a demon-looking thing with wings. Meanwhile, LightWing and his elemental team (from my novel, LightWing: Risen) find themselves in the same world. Yes, LightWing is another form of me. The team are seeking who brought them to this strange world, and find themselves rescuing me. I'm hoping to expand this part.

After this escapade, Joe... well, he blacks out again. This time, he wakes up without his cat around... which is weird. He quickly finds that his adventures are not over, when he meets the true form of Esther- a green-haired "elf girl" (just the ears) who happens to be his soul-mate. (This is from my first short story ever: "The Untouched Soul." "innocent" was actually a spin-off of it, but that really isn't important.) Joe finds out with mixed feelings that they are supposed to be married in a day! After the ceremony (which I plan to be hilarious), Esther's little sister (actually, modified clone), Melody, goes missing suddenly. They search for her and discover a sinister plot, along with the startling revelation that Joe accidentally fused with his "this universe" self and became more powerful

The final chapter of this RPG brings back everyone together. After a very odd meeting (two Esthers, two Joes, much confusion), they discover that the entire thing has been an evil plot concocted by someone from within one of the stories. He summons more minions that Joe created in the past that seek revenge on him and his party (Bob being one, this is the part with DSP), but they are defeated. That force then attacks Joe... and I can't give away the ending, of course.

Expect your normal RPG stuff, otherwise.

Hehehehe, I think I have another idea for you, that will happen in the ending, but I can't reveal that right away.

As for now, I have screenshots! Just to show that yes, I do work on things.

Enjoy!

And just so I don't have to manually insert line breaks, here's the updated storyline. So here it is, straight from Calc Haven!

Oh, yeah, the updated name is "Fantasy and Fiction", thanks to BCTurk. But of course, I managed to get it wrong in the screenshots...

Joe (me) is a writer. One day, he blacks out for no particular reason. He and his (talking?) cat find themselves in a strange world full of monsters. Joe soon finds out that he has been somehow transported into a world along with characters from a story he once wrote (in real life, too, but I haven't finished it). He meets a girl who he had "created" and has to apologize for what his character did to her. But when Joe takes her to school, he finds out that another of his characters is not happy to be separated from his friends and family and displays his disgust with his writer and the misfortune that this writer has put him through quite... angrily. Only Joe's friends, old and new, can save him and his attacker. One of my friends from real life is also playable in this part.

A cinema scene will show select parts of the story, including the fatal shot.

After this part is done, I'll release a demo, BTW.

Joe then blacks out quite randomly again, and finds himself in a prison cell. He somehow was captured by a sinister demon named NightWing (NOT the Batman guy). We cut to LightWing and his team, who recieve a message from an angel to rescue a boy and his cat from a demon. They set out, but LightWing finds himself growing more and more violent, and he runs off in remorse. He encounters his inner demons and returns to the team just in time to fight NightWing, who has a few surprising things to reveal to the holy hero. Joe has a conversation with his hero self and explains who he is and why he (and LW's team) are there. He instills some much-needed confidence in his alternate self and... guess what? Blacks out again!

There will be a cinema scene here showing one of LW's most pivotal battles here. Mock battle included!

Joe wakes up alone without his cat this time, but with his friend (the girl from the first part). He is approached by a character from his first story ever, a green-haired "elf"-girl named Esther. (Her alternate form was the girl from the first part. I made the other one a spin-off of my first one.) This Esther, however, plays a much different role: she is Joe's fianceé! (A cinema scene will explain the rather ridiculous part of the story... my friend's favorite part of the story because I use the word "bikini-clad"...) Anyways, Esther explains to a very surprised Joe that their wedding is in a day! Joe tries to explain that he just wrote all that as a story and that the Joe that she knows should show up, but he finds out that he somehow BECAME that Joe permanently... Anyways, after the wedding, Esther's younger "sister" (actually a clone, also to be explained) disappears, and a very angry, creepy person is out to get revenge... Joe, his new wife, and his friend set out to find her, of course!

A cut-scene shows how Joe met the elf-girl. Watch me screw up really bad!

Now that I think of it, cut-scenes should be black and white.

Joe blacks out again!!! Argh! But this time, he wakes up to find all of his characters together in a mysterious palace. They break into teams and try to discover what sinister force brought Joe's writing alive. This part guest stars Lord Mathias of Dark Side Programming, as well as Bob himself.

Don't worry, I'm trying to hurry up a demo out soon.

There are about 10 different playable characters, which I'll list, because it still won't be a spoiler.

In order of appearance:
Joe (Human/fuses with "newman" (like an elf) self) (All-around fighter)
Chip (Cat) (Ice Magic user)
Esther (Human Version) (Healing Magic)
Katie (Human) (High-powered attacking)
LightWing (Human) (Wind/Holy Magic)
Alan (Human) (Water Magic)
April (Human) (Fire Magic)
Mai-Lin (or a better Japanese-ish name if I can think of one) (Human) (Earth Magic)
Esther (Newman Version) (Lightning/Healing Magic)
Melody (Newman) (Darkness Magic)

Special Characters:
DSP (Sith Lord) (Darkness Magic) (Playable for only 1 battle)
??? (???) (High Defence) (Playable briefly)

Not that its any of my business, and I don't mean to sound anal or anything like that, but, Mai-Lin sounds Chinese, not Japanese. If you want Japanese, try searching "female names+Japanese" on any major search engine.(I asume Mai-Lin is a female name, if it isn't, well, um, sorry for the misunderstanding)

Overall, the game sounds pretty darn cool!

Female, yes... lol, you're right... I'm not too Asian-literate... I must have been thinking of Chun-Li (Street Fighter) or maybe Mai (from Fatal Fury)... doesn't matter.

Actually, thanks a bunch for mentioning that so I don't sound like any more of an idiot than I already do...

Awesome, d00d! I wish I had the dedication/imagination to make things like this... Anyways, good luck with it, and, of course, I can always beta test.

P.S. - Put me as the high defense guy!!! (my real name is Alex, I think you know that though.)

The "beta" will just be the first part... and the high-defence guy is already named and stuff, but I can't reveal who it is...

Actually, these are all based on things I've written/started writing, so technically, it's been there for years.

Hahaha! I should put you in somewhere, making a cameo, that'd be cool. Or maybe you can get the hidden character by finding your lunchbox that you lost somewhere...

I'm surprised at the lack of fun community-based games... so I make them! (BobGame 5, if you haven't played it, you should!)

Oh whoops! Durrr... post them on my own site first...

www.gamingw.net has a great archive for all sorts of things... if you look at their resource lists. You can also find a link there for a character sprite creator... very useful.

RPG maker 2000, though, I shouldn't talk about how I got it, since I think it might deal with WareZ or something. So I won't.

It's a fun piece of software, you can do a whole lot with it. (One person made tetris... O.o)

Okay, just an update on progress: kinda slow. One of the problems I always run into with all sorts of games is level design- I think it's really boring, frankly, and it takes me forever to build a town... I'm almost done with the events in the first one, Humor (and of course, it has some pretty good funny stuff in it, including old people with a "Logan's Run" reference, a potioneer (I made up that word) that isn't funny enough and is punished, and a few very odd people that don't make any sense that will have you wondering a lot of things. Anyways, I'd say I'm actually pretty close to a demo version which will be released here and on my own site. The longest of the three major parts will definitely be the second, as LightWing pretty much demands a much more intense plot (oh yeah, all plots are original, and I never wrote about them) since he's such... well, you'll see.

So this is my to-do list:
-finish up town
-finish up southern map area
-create dungeon
-create boss
-create dungeon
-create boss
(Bosses take only a few seconds, as does finishing the homeworld map.)
-create b&w cinema scene (shouldn't be too hard)
At that point... well, I don't really know how to end a game, so let's see what happens!
