I got a new cd player, as the subject states, mp3/cd player, quite neat, it's the iriver, imp-350. The remote has an insane amount of functions (you can even play a game on it, lol).

stupid me, i got the first available mp3 cd player that came out, so it sucks compared to the newer ones... i also got the first available mp3 player that came out (in the US), so that one sucks too... but they're both usable.

well, i went the same way, imp-350 was may second mp3 player. my first mp3 was digital with 64 megs and i got it when those just came out on the market. i paid $250 for it...was like two years or so ago. and as i said i got my imp-350 in the beginning of 2002. just if you were wondering why i got another mp3 is because some @$$ busted my first mp3 in school so i had to buy a new one.

I got a 128MB MP3 player for $99. Not among the elite, but it suits my needs. And if I feel like it I can get a smartcard and upgrade it (with a maximum of a 128MB card) adding up to 256MB.
As for those hard drive players... they are large, cumbersome, expensive, and what kinda trip are you taking that you'll listen to 10gigs of MP3s?! lol

Yeah, i have 2.12 Z, do u ever use the forums?
My sister has an older model (it's a lot thicker, ugly, no rechargeable batteries, cost more at the time too)

those hard drive players are pretty big, but still, an ipod is really nice, and really expensive. If money was no object, i'd go for the ipod over any mp3 player in a heartbeat.

I prefer mp3 cd over regular mp3 w/ flash memory because I can store a lot more for about the same price. 650 mb is enuf to hold most of what I want.

I had a regular mp3 player in my Clie (broken right now) with the 128 mb memory stick. Managed to cram 3-4 hours of music by encoding everything at 64kbps. Not bad, but 1) It drained the battery faster if i wanted to play games and 2) I wanted a bit more music.

winamp has one.... does anybody know of a tool that removes all selected mp3's id tags? i have to go through and "change Id tag" - uncheck ID2 and ID3, then 'save changes'..... on every single mp3 i download... it's annoying

There is a windows version too, but yeah, it's expensive, I think my friend is getting one.

those that have a copyright boolean enabled in their ID3 tag. although it's possible to remove this, it's kind of hard to find a program to do that. those copyright tags are usually created when mp3 is encoded and follow it even when it's reencoded again. they also that this annoying protection on Sony's MD players.

Yeah Barrett, going through winamp and modifying ID3 tags really is a pain. I went through 200 files and modified them, the rest of my several hundred music collection I left alone tho. Wat's so bad about ID3 tags tho?

Ah, i've seen this with .wma's, but not so often with mp3's. It doesn't really affect me much since my mp3's are all downloaded. Why would u have lots of copyrighted mp3's tho?

Yeah, sony has like check in and check out stuff in sonicstage (which i never use, it sux anyways).

ID3 tags makes it twice as hard to organize my music. I have the filenames organized; if i wanted it to be organized in my playlist, i'd need to either 1.) make sure all ID3 tags match the filename exactly, or 2.) delete all the ID3 tags. I choose number 2.

if you delete ID3's your music becomes pile of unorganized crap. i fix my ID3's right when I download files so I don't have any probs later on. I also fix ID3's because mp3's with tags show up better on my SlimX.

they don't become unorganized if you name them correctly. which is what i do. on most mp3 players, it recognized this format:

Author - Song Title.mp3

which is how i do mine. removing ID3's makes it so i don't have to worry about 2 different places where my files will be organized (1 place on an mp3 player, 1 place in a data folder)

I formatted all the ID3 tags that i put on my mp3 player, besides that, forget it. I mostly name my songs Artist-Song Title, but if i have the whole album, i'll do Artist-album-track #-title, or maybe album/track # first, i don't really need id3 tags for playing on the computer, only for my SlimX.

Hey, wat's the most songs u've been able to fit in mp3 format on a cd? I put 230-240, the sound quality is good too, which is nice, took forever tho.

230-240???? you must have some horrible quality. I can get 195 MAX. usually around 180... and these are the 700 MB cds.

yeah, i usually only fit 140-150 max. i never encode my own cd's on anyhitng lower than 256kbps so ones i have at 128/160/192 are downloaded ones. unf. it's hard to get even 160/192 files as most peeps only share or encode in 128 for many reasons. 128 sound okay but they lose all of their fidelity and other quite noticeable frequency sound. i too use 700mb CD-R's. i never try to fit as many files as possible no matter the cost coz i try to get the best sound quality. btw, anyone have a decent VBR mp3 encoder? if VBR's are done right you get 320kbps quality at MUCH lower size. for those who never use VBR or don't know what it is, it's Variable Bit Rate and all it does is it takes high bitrate and low bitrate chunks and makes one mp3 file from them. how? some parts of a music sequence can be of lower bitrate and yet sound the great (pauses, places where are only few instruments are played, voice, etc.). anyways, i'd use VBR if i had a decent encoder for them.

i think my friend managed to fit like 400, he encoded at 64kpbs tho (i think he has short-ish songs too).

http://download.com.com/3000-2141-10143516.html (I heard this is a good ID3 tag renamer, almost all the reviews on it are good, and the ones that aren't give like no explaination)

64kbps, jeez, some people really don't listen to music. even voice sounds s***ty on 64. you must be really our of CD-R's or i dunno what else to encode and listen to 64kbps mp3's. i never even download any music lower than 128kbps from net and only encode n 256 or 320 kbps. i use old winamp for ID3 tag editing.

I posted the ID3 tag renamer b/c it actually is very good, and fits exactly what Barrett watned (mass removal of ID3 tags is an option). You can also set the ID3 tags to be changed according to the final name, or the final name to be set by the ID3 tag, it's fast. You can also say, like give one artist to the ID3 tags of a bunch of files, faster than winamp. I mostly encode at 96. At 96, there's some distortion, mostly in the high end, if it's been reconverted to 96, it generally sounds worse than a .wma ripped straight to 96 (which actually sounds decent)

i agree, that lowerbit wma's sound better than lowbit mp3's. though, i don't prefer using wma's for some reason. i never worry about space and usually just compile a CDRW with several CD's and ither stuff and listen to them at work. i don't particularly care how many songs i can fit as long as they sound awesome and hi-fi. :) well, if 96 sounds good to you, it's your choice...
