Yes, I saw that on CNN a day or two ago. I probabably need a massive upgrade to play it at full quality though...

Just make sure you have a good gfx card to support all the pixel shaders and stuff. Though, the game is also physics rich and shadows/light are fully dynamic so a good proc/ram would be of essence. Though, the beta2 ran pretty well on my old specs so I think it should run just fine. I doubt Doom3 will have more shaders and poly's than Far Cry anyway. When you go outside and provided that you play on ultra high settings, the game drew in excess of 2-3 million polys (and of course with all the beauty of other nicies).

It's out near me currently, but I'm gonna wait for the Xbox version cause I can't afford a new video card (Halo pc looks so bad!).

I saw some of the graphics, and they look extremly impressive. I guess they're saying that it rivals movie Spec-Effects, and from the looks of it, they do. But I haven't tried it yet...

Yeah, the gfx are plain awesome and so are various effects. Doom3's dynamic lighting is also top notch. Gameplay is well, the same doom style (find a switch, kill everyone, find door, find another switch...) but the game is still a lot of fun. It does have some story to it, but it certainly not a story driven game or say at least that's not the game that has the story that keeps you playing. In Doom3 something else keeps you playing...
Check out some screenies I took (those are in High quality, second to best):
Doom3 screen1
Doom3 screen2
Doom3 screen3
Doom3 screen4
Doom3 screen5
Doom3 screen6
Doom3 screen7
btw, i had to save these in jpg to reduce the size. pics are also different res which is a result of my experimentations with various drivers and setting, sorry 'bout that.

BTW: those screenies looks soft because of jpeg compression. to make them smaller i didn't go with best quality. actualy screens look sharper than those.

box says you'll need:
1.5 ghz proc
dx9
384 ram
gfx with umm...32 or 64mb
2.4 or so gigs of HDD space

though, you'll need WAY more than that to actually enjoy the game. with specs above you'll prolly run on low setting with most things turned off. or in other words not ready for Doom3...

in general, you'll need the best possible system to actually experience and enjoy the game but something like below should provide enough juice for you to enjoy on running high (second to ultra) settings.

2.8 ghz p4 or better (all light and shadows are dynamic so you'll need as many ghz as you can get)
1 gig of pc3200 dual-channel ram or better/more (that's more than enough though)
now the gfx, at least an FX series card or radeon 9800 with 128 megs or vram. the more vram the better and you definitely want to make sure you have an 8x agp (or if you have ca$h and PCI-X) support. newer cards have better and newer pixel shader support which results in better look of the game and faster performance
having a fast HDD such as a 10K rpm SATA WD raptor would be nice and will significantly decrease load times but 7200 rpm HDDs will do fine too. i'd say gfx card is the most important factor for Doom3. oh, latest nvidia detonator boots fps by a lot so nvidia owners should certainly check it out.
other things will ofcourse make difference too but those above are the most important ones.

Ouch, I meet the minimum requirements, and thats about it. Eh, my comps almost 3 years old, I need a new one soon. :) well, when I get a new one, I'll definially try it. Until then, I'll find the friend with the best comp and use theirs.

August 8 is the release date for Doom 3 on Mac iirc. I haven't checked for a demo yet.

You can still play it allyn, but it's probably not going to be the same doom that guys with better comps will play. I does run about 15fps or so at best on my old 800MHz /384ram /gf2 comp. Obviously it has no pixelshaders and other stuff there and dynamic shadows lag the heck out of it. You'll prolly be able to run it on low or medium at an OK fps.

To D: Cool! This is probably the first game that will actually use the new hardware apple praises so much. That's going to be quite interesting to see the results and various benchmarks (D3 has a built in bench command).

EDIT: Speaking of demo, it won't be available for a while. At least id hasn't announced a demo release date yet and said it will take them some time to decide what to include. Though demos often don't come with full res textures so they hardly show off games, we're yet to see what id cooks up.

My video card is decent enough, but my computer is at minimum mhz and doesn't have enough ram.

It's ok with me, I'm not too much into gaming thes days.

That's an interesting one! You can run Doom3 even if you have a GeForce2 or like Radeon 6000 or so, of course it won't put out good fps, you won't get to enjoy hi-res textures and no pixel shader but it'll run. I'm not into much gaming lately either, but hey, it's Doom3 how can i not try it!
